I’m guessing he means Super Mario’s son, Governor Andrew Cuomo

Here we go, I'll get the popcorn. I could see an online safety course, but to get EVERY boat operator to sit through an all day course. Really?

I would be okay with a mandatory boating course. There are a lot of people that buy a boat with no experience and things can go wrong in a hurry. Too many people are oblivious to things like speed restrictions, acceptable distances, and the effect of your wake.

Well then, no exceptions. Every pedal boat, sail, kayak, etc....

Rugburn, Its the norm down here in RI and I am glad for it. We have ponds, lakes, rivers and the bay and oceanfront and I still do not know how half of these people passed the test.

I like the idea of an online course.

Tubes? What about paddle boards?  ;D

I am thinking boats with actual engines that make wakes and kill people when they get run over.

The problem is, regardless of training, those who don't appreciate the power of boats, or even the outdoors, will still act reckless with or without training. Doesn't seem like a cause worth undertaking in my opinion

People can die in a simple canoe ride, even passengers not paddling. Where do we draw a line, just motors? I've been on a Charter boat where a certified Captain had no right to that title, darn near killed us. All the training in the world can't fix some things.

Agreed , I also use to enjoy driving , these days I’m happy to arrive at my destination without getting clipped by a cell phonist 🤨

I think it is a good idea to assure every person operating a power boat have  boater safety training.  Just because someone has been operating a boat for years does not mean they know how to do it safely.  Additionally the training will educate them about the rules.  I went to Canada last year and had to take  boater safety to rent a boat.  Fortunately they accepted the one from NY State.  I have to admit that there were a few rules/regulations that I was not up on even after 40 years of operating a boat.

I keep it in my pocket.  NYSP hate my CT plates Ive found.  Cuomo's tax agents.

Boaters course was mandatory for CT as well.  8 hours of listening to moms and their kids asking dumb questions while trying to get pwc endorcements.

So the other part of the discussion, about the sewage blow outs, is a much bigger hackle raiser for me. Maybe money better spent to fix?

Problem all over the state. Troy dumps into the Hudson every time it rains. Normal operation for many cities along the Hudson.
