Is everyone getting ready? I actually bought a new wading jacket thinking a new rod
-
Oh boy 1 and 2 over 12”🤪
-
I think I want a gps set up with all the trout regulations in it so I know what to law is where I'm at lol 3 here 1 there5 somere else 2 over 12 lol
-
I think you're onto something trapper. NY is the worst with their geographical rules and limits.
-
STU i was walking down nine mile creek and the rules changed as i walked!!!! the DEC officer couldn't believe it as this stream is stocked by the county (carpenters brook ) which i voulenteer to help stock same stream same stocked fish walk 30 feet and the rules change ...... and it's not going to stop here with the trout.... now its panfish different rules everywhere from limits from 15 to 25 and some 8 inches ......i said it before this is stupid ...fishing is supposed to be fun ...watch a kid what makes it fun ? he catches fish and takes them home ....., we have no hunters and soon no fisherman
-
And they want you to reduce beef intake , so it looks like grass and bugs for lunch 🤪
-
mean while our beef is exported to china
top five importers being Japan, China, Taiwan, South Korea and Canada. The 2023 beef exports totaled 1.29 million metric tons (mmt) with a value of $860.8 million, down 12% from the 2022 record.
so thats why burger is nearly 7 bucks a pound

Partly true ,but at the UN meeting they ate gourmet beef and drove gas guzzling SUV , if you keep raising wages that burger is still going to go up or they will have to layoff workers to maintain those prices and that takes in all businesses if many haven’t noticed many more automated check outs at the grocery and your fillet o fish is 💵 😉
My trout gear is at the ready 👍
-
I buy my beef locally. Much better price without all the preservatives and help out the local farmers.

well i hit my little lake i fish before the streams open i seen some rises couldn't see what they were riseing too tried a griffen gnat and a 16 olive nothing ......went to a scud and got a dink perch :D ....no skunk
-
something to think about ,we don't have all the snow melt this year! nor do we have ice on the beaver ponds lakes and small waters ,we should be able to hit the northern trout streams and andirondacks early before black flies are out :D......umless we get alot of rain it looks like well have streams in good shape and no reason stocking can't be done
-
There is a creek in the catskills I want to revisit....
-
caught my winter trout on griffiths gnat and BWO size 18, exactly what I saw in the air. Along with a stone fly or two. ;D ;D ;D
-
Stocking in onondaga started yesterday
-
you can check on line threw carpenters brook as to where they stocked and how many , they do a great job
-
Stocking in onondaga started yesterday
They stock Onandaga ? I'm confused. Isn't that a catch and release only water ? I thought that was like certain areas on the Hudson where you could fish but no keeping.
Maybe I'm wrong?
-
ALL THRU OUT ONONDAGA COUNTY...........NOT ONONDAGA LAKE..........
-
state wide regulations on onondaga lake lake so i think you can keep fish if you want .... i know they do at long branch park
-
Onondaga county trout stocking from carpenters brook hatchery, some do end up in Onondaga lake from the tribs
-
the state stocked ononadaga with tiger musky too....i would think it would be a good lake to put sturgeon in too
-
Never been there I'll bet it gets a lot of pressure so close to the city

Thanks it’s been a great companion over the years , I bought it roughly 35-37 years ago off trapps buddy at midway bait in Fulton , the original strap crapped out, that 1 I bought of a lady near Lowville ny , she made it for me , the creel has an 18” basket ,
-
that was a different owner ,that would have been Ray Keck the orginal owner .....funny thing i have the same exact creel lol my brother gave me a about 20 years ago when he sort of got away from fishing for awhile
-
I remember growing up in Mass when there was a trout season. That first morning of trout season everybody and his brother was out trout fishing a local small lake. So many boats you could almost walk across them. Then after about week I had that little lake almost all to myself. Mass no longer has a season on the ponds anymore as far as I know.
That opening morning was exciting. The night before was just like anticipating Christmas morning opening presents! One year I was in charge of getting the tackle ready and decided putting heavier lines on the spinning reels would be better (I was about 11 years old). We had problems with 20 lb. test on the light spinning reels! :rotflol:

I got one just like it in a 16' version. Mine too went thru a carrying harness and I built on from leather belts and stuff from the hardware store. I have refinished it a couple times - that is what keeps it alive. If I had to guess, it's got 45-50 yrs behind it. My father had one that was HUGE. Don't know the dimensions but it had a bunch of brookies that went thru it.
-
That’s awesome 62
62 I always kept damp long grass , skunk cabbage leaves or ferns in the bottom and always rinsed after every outing
I also have my dads and grandads creels
-
as a kid i was told keep wet grass in it and dunk it once in awhile keep the fish cool i have broken with tradition and i put a couple freezer pacs in it make it back to the truck i have the cooler waiting...it's a special feeling with the creel on and you fell a trout shaking in it ....i still gill and gut my trout as soon as i can.....
-
I have a cooler at the truck ,
-
I feel so old - I still look for a forked branch to cut after I catch one. And I still hate the walk back to figure out where I laid it down in the water after I forget I laid it down. LOL
-
Omg I used a fork stick as a kid 👍

NYS SPRING 2024 TROUT STOCKING

-
Cool - thank you !
-
These days I don’t carry my creel, these days as I only carry a canvas creel most all my trips takes longer to drive there than to catch 2 over 12” , some places only 1 fish , total waste of gas money , so I’m losing interest in stream fishing so perch , walleyes , and bait fishing helps feed that hunger these days
-
heres my question the state limit is 5 2 over 12 ... so i can stream fish get the stream limit then hit a pond or lake right???? so can i hit a lake first get 3 under 12 then go fish a stream for my 2 over 12????

I don't see why not - the only sticking point might be if that lake has special regulations .....then you might need a pic or 2 of you that day with the trout along a creek ;D ;D

Trapp that brings back a memory: I once fished a small lake near Lake George (limit was 50 gills I think) I got about 20.
I stopped at Saratoga on the way home (limit 15) I got 15 and I'm still below the state limit. Ran into an ECO as I was loading my gear into the truck, and he wanted to see all my pails Uh oh He was not happy at all . If I had not had a receipt for gas from Glens Falls, that day, I would have been cited for sure.
I understand how confusing these regulations are, and he was just doing his job, but it shows how easily we can run afoul of the law. We all need to stay abreast of ALL the regs. Old and new.
-
My limited understanding is that NY goes by posession limits. So as an example, I cant have more than 25 crappies in my posession at any given time. So doing a multi day trip to southbay to nail spawning crappie and harvesting 25 per day would be illegal. (Assuming the first days catch were still in my possesion)
Reasonable rule I think. Ive seen guys get busted for having 3 stripers in the cooler on a multi day trip. The tricky part is some states have a daily limit and a posession limit.

Where would this "nine mile" be located?
Just wondering if you were in my neck of the woods
-
I know there is one that flows thru Marcy NY - always caught more bass there than trout but there was nice fish in there ....I suspect his is a different creek though
-
And I suspect he also is not in my neck of the woods as the fish there are 100% native and not stocked
-
nine mile is in Onondaga county
-
nine mile is in Onondaga county
There is a nine mile in cattaraugus county also!!!!
I figured you were not by me
