1. Fillet the gar in normal fashion. Don't worry about the bones, we'll get to that
2. Attach the fillets to water soaked cedar planks like you're making salmon
3. Place the planks over a medium fire or at an angle near a hot campfire
4. Cook gar until well done, you can baste with butter at this point if you wish
5. Remove fillets from planks
6. Discard gar
7. Eat the planks
