Title: One must do...
Post by: rivereddy on May 10, 2022, 09:43 AM
What one must do. When the wife says it's time to go fishin' one must obey.
We paid a call to a lake in south central Indiana yesterday and, while there were
signs that the party was winding down, the gents were still in their tuxes.
we kept about twenty and only a few were females.  While the males looked
spent, the females were still carrying eggs.  We could afford to be picky and
only kept those between 10 and 11 inches. We only fished crappie for about
90 minutes. After we had enough "meat fish"  said wife tied on a small floating rapala and
I just paddled the canoe along the shoreline and let her hassle the bluegills and
small bass.  After we got home, I cut the filets off and she skinned them.  The
freezer is looking good.

fish on,

Another great day on the water! I'm looking forward to getting on the water after this heat wave subsides. Been chasing turkeys. Got mine yesterday morning at Kingsbury F & W Area right off the roost at 5:20 am. When I got out of the truck it was 75 degrees and so humid you could cut it with a knife. Packing that 20 lb Tom back to the truck walking in a wet cut corn field with all my other gear on my back gave my by pass surgery a real test. Happy to say I did well.
I told my friend in check station that maybe this is my last! I was dripping wet!
He called the manager, another friend of mine, and told him," I have an 83 year old hunter here who just shot a turkey. Said he was in Area 3,  shot it at 5:20 am but he can't remember his name!!"  Manager asked him if it was Gross!! He said I should come out next year and shoot one and they would come pick me up with the side by side!!!
I'm a lucky old boy!!!

Good job, glad you got out safe and well. I was outside for a few minutes and I noticed I was feeling a bit out of breath and punk. Guess I attribute this to years of over eating and not taking care of myself. To think years ago, I used to work outside in all the heat on roadwork and bridges. Thank God I have air. Be safe and stay cool.

Congratulations Teach! I’m still chasing those bastards, been a tough year around my area. Had birds gobblin on the roost most mornings but once on the ground they went silent. Calls haven’t worked hardly at all this year. Hex

Keep after them Hex. Had a couple of mornings where Toms acted totally uninterested. Then the next day acted like they just wanted to die!! That's what I love about the crazy things. Totally unpredictable. Around here everyone has been banging on them! The bird I shot at Kingsbury F & G Area was number 40 on property which might be a record and I know of 8 shot opening day and another on 3rd day. That's a bunch!
