Bass are bedding in my bass/bluegill pond
« on: May 12, 2022, 12:43 PM »
Water has warmed up fast with the heat wave! I just need to keep the Great Blue Herons off them. They will spear anything that moves even if it's too big to swallow. Ive got about 70 feed trained largemouth in the production pond I want to get to 6 pounds. They are about 4 pounds now

As I was typing this an Osprey showed up to get his share of fish although he seems to be smart enough to only go after fish he can carry away. I scared him off with my PVC bazooka that fires bottle rockets. I would never harm them. Here's where I got the idea:

The trout pond which is much smaller has lines criss crossing it to keep out the ospreys. The bass pond is too large for that to be very practical.

Neat!
With this quick heat we got I'm sure water is going to warm up in a hurry. In the morning sun my thermometer was 118 degrees yesterday! Pretty warm!

I have't measured the water temp in my bass/bluegill/yellow perch pond yet but a friends is already 77 F. on the surface!

Gills are getting on the beds around here. Played with them this morning with the 3 wt fly rod. All went back to see another season.
If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.
