I know this is an old post but here is my trick. Leftover braided line tied in a nail knot. Works just as good ;) as any stop.   8)

Thats what a bobberstop is. A piece of thick braided thread tied in a nail knot.

Yep, but I dont have to buy the braid. Well once I guess but I got 20 yds to make all the bobber stops I want.

i like the rubber egg ones because they are easy to use. they seem to fail after you adjust them a few times though.
the string ones on the little straw are what i mostly use, i leave a bit hanging to tighten them with.
braided line with a nail knot works well, but is harder to tie.
for ice fishing, i've always had trouble with them icing up and not wanting to go through the guides, and for panfish, the stuff i use is so light it doesn't want to go htrough the bobber to the depths.
i end up just handlining then. anybody know a good way around the ice issues?

Put a drop of olive oil on the bobberstop.

I use waxed dental floss. I tie it on the plastic tube from a Q-Tip. Leave the tag ends long...about 4". Slip the line through the tube, slide the knot off onto the line and tighten. Clip the tag ends and slide to where you like it. The wax in the floss seems to help. I use about 8 turns on the nail knot.

If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.
