This may be a bit long, but it's here to welcome a new fly tier to the addiction
Onelastcast, this one's for you!
RG's Bead Head Wooly Bugger
What you need;
Hook; any size you like, straight shank. I tie #14 < #4
Thread ( I forgot the thread) 140 to 210 denier or 6/0 Uni
Chenille your choice of color
Rooster hackle, again your choice of color
Marabou Still your choice
Bead or cone head (I use both)
Hackle Pliers
Whip Finisher
Scissors
Get the bead on the hook. (Don't forget to crimp the barb for release) You may need to carefully widen the gap of the hook to get the bead on smaller hooks.
Build a thread dam behind the bead to help hold it in place
Move the thread to the bend of the hook
Choose a clump of marabou and measure it to about the length of the shank.
Tie in the marabou
Trim the excess and tie in a length of chenille
Again, trim the excess and tie in a rooster hackle by the tip
Wrap the chenille forward and tie it off with a couple of tight wraps of thread
Attach the hackle pliers to the butt of the hackle, palmer it forward and tie it off.
Pull the hackle back and wrap a smooth section behind the eye
The next step is my own. It's not necessary, but I like the way it looks.
Apply some natural hair dubbing to the thread
Wrap a neat collar
Whip finish
Whew!
Rg's Bead Head Wooly Bugger.
