Coho Run

With the Ice being caput, I'm getting ready to fish for Coho, and then plan to head to the Maumee for Walleye.  Seen several people giving it a try out in MC but haven't seen or heard of much being caught.

A few reports trickling in. Someone landed 6 at Cook last week. Others catching some further south. Also a couple browns caught. I'm looking forward to refilling the freezer with those tasty fish!

My buddy has been limiting out on jumbo perch and then hooking up on coho and he even nailed a big Skamania a couple days ago. He's only telling me the perch is from the hole. I'm not familiar with the names or places on the big lake but he has me excited about getting on those perch.

I haven’t heard the term “Skamania” in years.

There is the hole in the wall by Inland steel?

The "Hole" they are talking about is a 55" deep area north of Gary lite. I believe it's a clay bottom & seems to be a perch spawning area. They move in some time in the late fall as the water cools. They stay until the water warms in the spring. Yes there is what is called "The Hole in the Wall" off the wall of Inland but it can hold some perch but I believe the 55' spot is better if you can get there.

I totally agree, there is the clay flats that produces early. Need good weather to get there or a BIG BOAT, and favorable winds.

Can you get by with a 6.6 medium fast rod for coho I don’t want to spend money if these will work

depends on how you are fishing.  If you want to use a "pier rig" you will probably want a longer rod. For just casting spoons, bottom fishing or slip bobber fishing your current rod will be fine.
