The ocean is alive

Fluke, tautog, and even blue fish. We also hooked into scup, seabass and a few schoolies. Was a great weekend on the water and things should only get better from here. Here is my buddy with 2 of his fluke. I love single day multi species trips like this where tactics and gear changes.

Sounds like a great time.  I'm hoping to get out in the salt in my kayak this coming weekend or the following weekend.  Fingers crossed for no wind!

If you do PM me. Odds are I will see you out there if I know what I am looking for and a general area.

You could join the fleet outside of phinneys harbor. At least 50 kayaks out there any given weekend no matter the conditions

I'll have to check it out.  Don't know many saltwater kayak spots.

don't know about the fluke, they only appear here every 10 years or so, but those spikey red fish that are in with the haddock make a mean fish taco....I've been getting monster whiting as well, they are flakey and delicious... freezer is filling back up, I was down to just a few packages of white perch..

Nice Joe!

I also keep some of those spiky red fish. sometimes I fillet them or sometimes I just skin them, gut them and remove head, tail and fins.  Great grilled like that.

Are you guys talking about this when you refer to the spiky red fish:

I just tried some this year and they are my new favorite.

that's the little beast, watch out for those spines, they are toxic and some people are highly allergic

I tried sea robin last year and thought it was delicious as well.  There was a category for them in the yak tourney I did so i kept a few larger specimens and they were surprisingly tasty.

I was actually referring to the sea robins as well Pat. Never caught the Red fish Joe is talking about, never even seen them. Sea robins are great with teriyaki sauce and grilled.
