Good Multispecies Day
« on: Jul 23, 2023, 05:36 PM »
I fished Fish Pond (Windsor Lake) in North Adams from 2 to 4:30 PM,

It was sunny and warm (85 degrees).

I ended up with 17 sunfish, two 12" perch, one 12" bullhead and one 13" largemouth.

How big are the sunnies you catch?  I like catching hard-fighting bluegills, but I find the smaller sunfish species like pumpkinseeds (aka "kibbies") can be a bit of a nuisance.

I agree - - big sunfish can be fun to catch, but the "kibbies" can be annoying.

Generally speaking, the sunfish at Fish Pond are larger than average - - 8" or 9" long - - but yesterday I was landing mostly dinks.

Speaking of pumpkinseeds, my brother and I got into some nice ones drop-shotting for smallmouth bass up in Maine last weekend.

Those are decent-sized sunnies.

Did you keep any?

I'm not much good with a filet knife, but I understand a batch of them can make on helluva fish fry.

These were caught from the lower Androscoggin River where there is a non-consumption advisory for all fish.  Beautiful river, but until somewhat recently the water had been heavily polluted for decades.
