battery life
« on: Dec 13, 2022, 11:58 AM »
I have a duralast 24ms-dl deep cycle cranking battery. It has 1000 mca and 135 reserve minutes
My new depth finder draws 2.7amp at full brightness, how many hours will the battery last.

It’s a 135 ah battery. Do the math.
If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

I calculate around 35 hours.

I don’t believe that battery is 135ah Bob.
Probably more like 100ah, which is typical for a series 24 battery.

So 100ah divided by 2.7 amps = about 37 hrs. (Pretty close to your 35 prediction)

One caveat however.
You should never discharge a LA battery more than 50%.  Otherwise you will damage the battery, significantly reducing its possible lifespan.
This is one contributing factor why LiFePo4 batteries are far superior to LA batteries.

So that 37 hrs realistically becomes 18.5 hrs.

Specs say 135 Mac. Doesn’t really matter all that much. Too many variables anyway. It’ll certainly last the day.

Yea Bob.  I didn’t feel like looking up the battery.  I don’t believe them though.  Not sure how you can get 35% more storage capacity than other 24 series cases get.  It’s all about lead and acid mass and the physics of it all.

But, yup, you’re exactly right.  It’ll definitely last the day for sure bud.

Just a deep cycle calculator online. I was curious. Looked up the specs he listed and went from there.

Hey…it’s on the internet….it must be true….right?

Anyway…..go fishing. If it dies….you’ll still be fishing. Fished without one for 50 years and did alright. Electronics are over rated in my book. Too much claptrap to deal with.
