inflated crawlers ?? help....

I've been fishing inflated crawlers for awhile now with little success for salmon. The way I fish it is from the the bottom up with free sliding 3/4oz  egg sinker, 2-3ft leader with size #4 hook.

My problem is when I cast out, my worm would sometimes fly off the hook. What is the best way to hook an inflated worm without it falling off when I go to cast? Also how long do they float up until it start to sink?

Any info would be appreciated...
