Thanks. It was a good find. After I clean it up I'll put it back together as original for now. May doe some upgrades over time, but not right away.

Spent a cold windy day in the garage with my new band saw. Cleaned up pretty nice.
Before...

After....

Still a bit of rust to clean up. Didn't have the right color paint so I hit it with some Rust converter. I'll get back to it later.

Tomorrow I'll clean up the table,  trunnions, belt covers and do some final tuning. New link belt and blades and it'll be a fine running machine.

Not much I like better than bringing an old machine back to life. The former owner passed and I hope I can do it justice....and leave it to my son.

Awesome work rg. Tools are meant to be used. And passed on to the next generation. The past owner would be glad it's still being used.

I've got some maple branches about 8" in diameter that I've been wanting to rough out into bowl blanks. Can't wait to put them to the saw. A friend has some Bradford Pear and Mulberry for me as well when I'm ready.

You're right, every old tool has a soul.

My grandfather had a small lathe. I should go down and see about getting that out and running again.... been a while.

Table cleaned up nice.

Found a 1 hp  motor at Harbor freight for $160 and a link belt for $30. I'll wait for a 25% off coupon and upgrade both.
Need to order some ceramic or graphite cool blocks for it and a couple new blades and I'll be good to go.

Soaked it for a while with Dolite gun treatment. Used it the gun shop for many years to take surface rust off. Gave it a scrub with a pretty fine brass brush then cleaned it with denatured alcohol.

Took the orbital with 220g. Paper to it, polishing compound and then car wax.

Not the first matchine top I've restored. It has some fine surface pitting in a few places. Won't affect performance at all.

PB Blaster works too. Soak it let it sit for awhile or even overnight.
