Flyrod brookie.... released

    Fish was caught nov of 2010  in a small tributary of A small river in western South Dakota.

That is really a nice fish. That said, I have seen hundreds of brook trout and that one just didn't look right to me. I shared the photo on another wedsite with professionals who have the credentials to give a dependable identification. While there was no concensus, none of them said it was a brook trout. Most who saw it believe it is a splake...a hybrid of a brook trout and a lake trout.  Congrats!!

Looks like a giant brook trout to me. Not a splake. Just throwin my 2 cents in. Congratulations of the phenominal fish gone hunting!

Absolutely a splake- that what makes it so beautiful and so awesome!! Look at that head and those pec fins! So Lake trout-like. That has to be one of the prettiest and rarest fish ever- congrats on a great catch!!!!!!
