Androscoggin River launch in Auburn
« on: Feb 27, 2020, 12:22 PM »
Discovered this last year while passing through, basically behind Wendy's.  A quick look on Google maps shows that for such a nice ramp, it only offers a very limited amount of the river between two dams.  Strange that they's put that much effort into putting in an improved launch for that small amount of water.  I'm sure there are better places to spend that money.  A canoe/kayak launch sure, but a trailered boat launch?

I'm sure the marine repair shop that was right next to it had some leverage in the decision.

Hey Dylan.  That's interesting to hear.  Still might give it a try someday, certainly the stretch above.

Good luck with your business, good to see your up and running.

Be very careful in that stretch of water there is a lot of big boulders just under the surface
Really good small mouth fishing though

Nothing nefarious about that launch.  Its owned by Brookfield not the State.  Its well maintained so they can launch to maintain the dam. And they let the public use it, which is required under the FERC mandate.

Thanks for the info, everyone.  And good to know it's owned by Brookfield.  Makes sense that it would be there for dam maintenance.

Huntermike, regarding the boulder hazards, are you referring to that stretch between the two dams, behind Wendy's  Or the stretch above up close to Turner?

It being a river, of course I'm sure there's unmarked hazards everywhere.

That little stretch looks like something my little pond boat can handle, as long as the flows aren’t high... it only has a electric trolling motor.

Chi, your boat could absolutely handle that stretch in medium/low flows.

How big is your boat, Chi?  I know you take it out on Sebago.

That was in my friends boat. My own boat is a two person 8’ mini bass boat, only has a trolling motor lol.

Oh, okay.  I was going to PM you some spots but you'd be in real trouble if the wind picked up.  Plus it would take forever to get to the good spots with just an electric.  If you have access to a canoe or kayak, I can tell you a good spot.  Let me know.
