Dickwood Lake, Aroostook Cty.. A waste of money

Can anyone tell me why in the world the state of maine would stock this lake with 2500 trout ? I've been by it on a 4 wheeler and it's still tough to get near... Why waste the money when there are better lakes with better returns.  ??? ??? ???

Its all about politics and the fact that its in public reserve land.  I hope that its cause they want to keep it stocked and some day make it better accessible.  But I agree seems they could find better places to put them.

Ive got a rack for my canoe that goes on my 4 wheeler or I have a 12' boat on a trailer that I tow.  Think we could get one or the other into there from my camp in St. Francis?

i was told they stock it w/ small brookies, let them grow in there for a few years, then stock them in other ponds. thats why its c&r only. they basically use dickwood as a natural nursery for juvenile trout. used to be general law in there. not sure when they changed the regs tho. theres another pond near fish river lake thats the same thing. dont remember the name. that ones fly fishing only c&r. its cheaper than raising them in a hatchery and they look identical to native trout.
