Last couple times out
« on: Jul 17, 2015, 10:17 PM »
I got out on Sunday 7/5 and again today.  Fishing was pretty good both days, as I cleaned about 30 each day.  The biggest from the first trip was 10" and we had quite a few 9-9.5.  Biggest today was 11.25" with a couple other 10s and a good number of 9-9.5.

WOW, you got some dandy gills there.  You must of went to Leesburg gravel pit to get fish that size.

Mighty fine kesdaddy!!! Even upside down that almost 12 incher is a pig!!!!!! If I had to catch only one fish it would probably be a big ole fat bluegill!

Great fish! Looks like mostly females, with one lone fellow.

OK sprkplug, how was you able to determine the lone male out of that bunch.  They all look the same to me.

First photo, top row, middle fish is a male. See the difference in coloration, the darker breast area, the more pronounced hump on the forehead, and the larger opercular (earflap)?

I wonder a bit about the middle photo, and the fish in the bottom photo, bottom row left corner, but without closer examination I'll stick with female for now.

Yeah Teach, I love those big fat gills too!  They're a blast to catch on light tackle, and very tasty to boot!

Had some more males, but they didn't quite make the line up.  But you are correct, they were most all spawned out females.

sprkplug, I was looking at the second photo and couldn't see the difference in any of them.  I see what you mean on the top photo.  Thanks
