I use suffix 832 braid with a 6 ft seagaur fluorocarbon leader hooked to a 1 ounce bottom bouncer and spinner rig.

Are you actually bouncing off the bottom or at a certain depth with the weight gliding through the water??

I’m bouncing bottom, this is in 15 to 25 ft of water, H2l turned me on to jigging and that is now my preferred way to fish.

Hello, Sacandaga fishermen. Wanted to let you know that the lake came UP a foot since the weekend, but the dock is NOT in.

Not the real reason for this. I keep in touch with Dave that ran Dave's Bait where I worked. He started Sacandaga Dave's Charter on the lake last year.

He did 51 trips had ONE skunk and had those guys back 2 days later for free and they caught 16 walleyes.

These are his season totals:

702 walleyes and to make US all feel good about the size of the fish we were catching, he ONLY had 3 that were 19".

+20 trout with 3 over 20 inches, 1 24" brown.

28 pike, couple in the low 40 inch class.

Many perch and some nice ones.

1 TEN pound catfish.

And the one fish he was most excited about, a 16" White perch that fought like "hell". We both thought that they were gone as neither of us has gotten one in quite a few years. We don't need them in this lake.

BASS, who counts!!!! lol

Love the stats.  My friend kept track of all the fish he caught one year and it became quite the burden, especially on days where you catch 100 micro perch.

I've been keeping notes on how many, size, where caught, bait used. In the last 2 seasons the dynamics down my end changed some. Places that I used to mark and catch walleye and perch are vacant. Some spots have more and moved a short distant away. Could be lake level or time of year (holding bait). You never know. Been keeping track since late 1990's. More consistent these last 12 years.

Kim, I am sure the lake level plays a part, but I had spots that produced from late May right into September for 20+ years. It was "rare" when you ONLY caught 2 or 3 walleyes on them. While speaking to Dave he also said many of his "old" locations are not what they use to be but he is a troller and we understand that bait balls are always moving. Jig fishing structure does not move. Hunting season is over so got time to figure it all out....h2l

Where would you guys set up for hardwater Pike?

I don't target pike but my guess would be the main body of water. Near islands and coves and such........

With the water level at June levels they could be just about anywhere. Usually late season (Feb/March) the Mayfield end does produce some nice pike...h2l

Yesterday I saw a guy launch his jet-ski at the Northville launch, break though the "skim ice" and go for a ride, I just hope it wasn't a "relative"...h2l

Earliest I have ever seen the lake free of ice. Sunday morning after the 6" of snow there were 3 guys fishing off the Northville bridge! Lake level is just under normal for early May. The launch and the campsite are closed....h2l
