Opening day for walleye

I just received a copy of DEC's Field Notes, an online publication, and they list May 1 as opening day for walleye, northern pike, and musky.
Did I miss something?

That would be great because I'll be striper fishing on the scheduled day may 5th ;D

Page 3 of the PDF below still states the first Saturday in May as the opening day, May 5th this year.
