Smallmouth Bass in Sask.?
« on: Apr 22, 2005, 01:32 PM »
Hi fellow anglers,
I have heard that smallmouth bass are now going to be stalked in a few lakes in Sask. Have anyone else heard this to be true or just a rumor? If it is true does anyone know what lakes contain them? :)

i have heard this floating around too and the SERM regional biologist said that smallmouth will be planted in a few lakes within the next year or so, Brightsand was one lake i think they were considering. so time will only tell if this is actually true or not i noticed they had posted a limit of zero for smallmouth in the new anglers guide so maybe they are already trying to establish them in certain lakes??

Probably the best way for sure would be to contact the fish culture station at Fort Qu'Appele, then we would know for sure where the smallmouth bass are or will be located.;D

Here is some information that I have found:

Quote
Smallmouth bass are currently managed in a limited
number of small, landlocked lakes across the south and
east-central areas of the province.

And this is the distribution map they give:

I tried opening the PDF file but it didn't load for me. Did it say what lakes had smallmouth bass in them? :)

They may want to keep the lakes secret, until they see if the smallmouth bass population will survive. :-\ ::)
