Welcome back Trap

It’s not effecting mine
I’m cruising now

It won't effect mine, most of my trips are local anyway. I am going to Canada in May, so I suppose if they close the border it would effect me. I live in an area that has many retired people who go south vatious times between January and April. None of them have cancelled any of their flights these last couple months of travel.

In the end I think it will be another variation of the flu. Eventually they will have a vaccine, in the mean time people should do what they can to keep a sanitized environment around them. If your older or have health issues I would be very aware of feeling sick and get treated right away just to be on safe side.

I personallly believe it's all hype from the media . Every year there is a new strain of the flu and everyone gets crazy. I'm certainly not saying people shouldn't wash their hands, but everyone seems crazy on these hand sanitizers  and disinfectants. Let your body build up it's immune system.
P.S.  I'm still fishing.

The CDC estimates the 2018-19 season had 35.5 million sick with regular influenza. 16.5 million went to the DR's for it. 490,600 hospitalized and 34,200 deaths. Corona just doesn't seem to be this bad. Maybe I'm wrong, but I also think this is another political ploy. "Never let a crisis go to waste"

It's not hype if you live in a place where people are packed together like worms in a coffee can.

I work part time in a retail environment. The computers, shopping carts, employee break room, rest rooms and grateful customers who want to shake your hand make me cringe. I carry hand sanitizer all the time. I have since I started in the store.

Wash your hands.....really wash your hands, avoid touching your face, eyes and nose and don't hang around with sick people! If you're ill....STAY HOME!

That said, we sold out of every kind of dust mask and respirator we stocked  about 3 weeks ago. Now it's rubber gloves. Next they'll be buying giant plastic bags and tyvek suits to wear.

DS...you hit the nail on the head!

Will it affect my fishing? No.....I fish alone.

What the fake impeachment failed to accomplish, the fake coronavirus scare is succeeding to do. The fake news has successfully shattered the confidence of the American People.  There are many things that occur that kill way more people than the coronavirus.  We need to stop running around with our hair on fire and live our lives. Go to work, go fishing, enjoy your families and ignore fake news.

We just cancelled our flight to Seattle. My youngest son was scheduled to defend his doctoral research on the 19th at the university of Washington.  The campus is now closed and a staff member there tested positive.  My son tells me seattle is turning into a ghost town.  People are afraid to go out.  Pikes market is empty.
This is what I know. It’s real for me and some of you better start believing too.

I stopped watching the news 6 years ago when my oldest was a baby. It was so negative that I couldn’t find any good reason to have that garbage on.

I would be surprised if anyone found anything truly useful out of the news nowadays.

They are good at creating mass hysteria though.

Sad state of affairs. Sorry for anyone that has plans cancelled because of this.

The virus is real. The media reaction to it is hysteria. I watch the news in an attempt to keep informed but I have to discard 90% of what is presented because it is some communist talking head's opinion or childish speculation. The horse is out of the barn and not likely to be caught. All we can do is take the exact same precautions we do for the flu and continue on with our lives. Extra steps need to be taken to protect frail old people. The stock market losing 20% of its value (and my 401K as well) due to lemmings jumping off the cliff is a gross over-reaction.  Hopefully cooler heads will prevail in the not too distant future. I have 1278 days until I plan to start drawing off that 401K and it sure would be nice to have some fishing funds in there at that time.

I agree 100%, I'm thinking when it hits mid summer and out of the cold/flu season, they will have a vaccine and/or be out of the flu/cold season and it will calm down. Just like when the scare about avian flu, swine flu, zika, MRSA and other illnesses was going to kill us all, media blowing it up and people over reacting.

My family lives out there too. My cousin works construction/landscaping and often has to drive through Seattle for work. When I was out there we typically left at 3am for a job at 9 to avoid traffic. He says he’s leaving at 730 for a 9am arrival now.

Converted all of my stock holdings to bonds for the time being to protect against the correction.  Something you can consider especially if you are close to pulling out.

Now aggressively buying some stocks to take advantage of the correction when it comes back around.

Like reeleze I also stopped watching the news/media.  Seems to me people forget propaganda is still real.

Italy has reported 168 deaths from the virus just in the last 24 hours with close to 631 so far. Entire country is shut down. Out of 9000 confirmed cases that makes it a 7 percent mortality rate. The common flu is only 0.1 percent. So the COVID-19 virus in Italy is 70 times more deadly for infected people than the common flu.

The sky is not falling but it's not something to blow off either.

Historically the world gets a Pandemic about every 100 years. The last one was in 1918. It started out so mild in the spring the experts at the time weren't even sure it was an influenza virus. By the fall of that year it had mutated to a very deadly virus that atcually hit the 20 to 40 year olds the worst as it caused their immune systems to overreact. It came in waves.

The Spanish Flu (Did not originate in Spain) killed more people world wide than the black plague did in 10 years.

My wife was due for an 3 month check-up next Tuesday at New York Presbyterian Hospital in NYC. They e-mailed us on Monday to stay home. NYP is where the Westchester case is being treated, plus we would be traveling though that area. The wife has no immune system due to lung transplant July 2016. We take no chances.

Yesterday we were working with some G10 and GP03 in the machine shop, nasty dusty stuff. Consequently we wear protective respirators while doing so. Along comes a material salesman. He takes one look around, puts his literature on the counter, waves and retreats back to his vehicle. Saved us the 5 minute sales spiel. He probably plastered himself in hand sanitizer when he got out to his vehicle. I kind of like this new peaceful isolation.

Yes but the Spanish Flu may have originated on pig farms in the U.S.! No one knows.

What I didn't know until recently is bats are reservoirs for all kinds of viruses. And selling and eating bats and snakes (that eat bats) in Chinese markets is probably where COVID -19 (short for SARS-CoV-2) probably started. Once a novel zoonotic disease gets started (jumps from animal to people transfer to people to people transfer is when you potentially get a virus that people have no immunity to and it can spread like wildfire.

I got sicker tha a dog yesterday with vomitting and diarrhea. However there is no respiratory component to it as in coughing, and I had just a slight fever. 99.8. So I chalk it up to food poisoning or a common flu virus. I have the luxury of staying home as my business is at home. Feel better today and eating soups!

I haven't been sick in so long I forgot how miserable it is. My deepest sympathies for those getting sick out there.

Hard to know what's accurate coming out of an authoritarian state with state run media. I wouldn't trust any information to China as far as I could throw a house.

I see they said they brought the infection rate down to zero or something like that. I seriously doubt that.

The toilet paper frenzie is the direct result of social media. As is the huge panic going on right now. No new vaccine is going to be in place for many months. Depending on what internet blather you choose to believe, it's either going to decimate the entire planet or it's going to go away just as the last 3 major strains have.

I've watched the crazies for the last week buying up masks, TP, every type of cleaning product on the shelf, wipes, sanitizer and even tyvek suits. One woman bought 5 full cases of tyvek suits.

I asked a fellow yesterday with 10 24 packs of toilet paper in his cart why he was buying all that and his response was, "my wife told me to". With limits of 10 each of particular items, there was a woman on Monday who tried to get through the checkout with no less than 30 canisters of Lysol wipes. She was near hysterical when she was told that she was limited to 10. I thought they were going to have to call the police.

In my 70 years on this earth ( as of Monday) I've only seen people go this nuts maybe once before and that was during the so-called gas shortages. Social media and the world's addiction to instant contact and information are the root of this panic.

9 out of 10 panic buyers in the store have been  women. Coffee in one hand and cell phone in the other.

One good result is that people no longer want to thank me by shaking my hand. That always creeped me out anyway.

I’ve never felt the need for a handgun until Wegmans last night when I stopped for cereal and crushed tomatoes. Third world country type actions going on.
Really sad.
My daughters a senior in college and struggles with school but works hard and is on track to graduate on time so for her not to be able to walk at graduation is going to be crushing.
My junior in high school most likely played her final travel volleyball and we will know shortly but most likely no spring school softball. Maybe no school period.
My wife and I however did buy a NOS 211 Key West this week so we can isolate ourselves in the middle of a lake. Probably not a wise financial move but this too shall pass.
Wash your hands upon entering my house is the new rule.

So sad Mcully. But as you said...this too shall pass.

I'm curious to see what they'll be after today. I told one of the managers that they should move all the toilet plungers and snakes into the bays where the TP was.

Maybe we can start an internet rumor that the smell of new mulch around your house keeps the virus away. We've got about 120,000 bags of that on the property right now.

The Ayatollah Tabrizian says western medicine is un-islamic. He recommends combing your hair, eating lots of onions and apples and inserting a cotton ball soaked in violet leaf oil in your anus to cure CV. Who knew?

I refuse to take the census. Always have. Even had a schmo come to my door to try to get me to take it. I told him to get lost. None of his business!

No one said not to follow the recommendations of health officials. I'd take a bath in hand sanitizer.....if the panic stricken droves hadn't bought it up.

Anyway, today it was laundry sanitizer ( which don't understand), bleach, Lysol, paper towels, industrial cleaners and bottled water.

Costco was nuts today.  The line went to the back of the store. I watched people grab anything they could.  I left.  I’m going to grab bullets soon

There had already been a huge run on them.
