First large channel cat
« on: Jul 18, 2004, 11:26 PM »
I'm too tired after half a day in the boat, then a pool party / BBQ, so this will be surprisingly short.

This morning I headed out to Lockport with Luke (son) and a new friend I met on a local fishing board, a rather generous fellow.  We had a pretty slow day...good thing we brought bait along as we didn't catch any.  Tried a couple of spots and not much action except for friend's shrimp getting chewed up.  After a potty break we headed north...tried a spot Lyn knew of, but anchor wouldn't hold, so we moved across.  Very shortly after putting in line, I was into a 35.5 inch channel cat.  Thanks to Lyn with the net, the fish was landed, photos taken, and released.

It was a slow day on the water, Luke exhibited a lot of patience for a 6 year old, and was ready to tie into a big cat.  Unfortunately, it wasn't to be.  He still claimed to have a fun day.

I do to....

Fishing isn't a matter of life or death, it's much more important than that!

If he wasn't happy, it was because he couldn't get around for a good look.  After that, he was back in the saddle himself.  Unfortunately, he didn't get one that day.

I think the flash may have gone...bright sunny day with the sun at my back doesn't make for good photography - the boat setup didn't easily allow us to get around each other though.  Then again, I can probably just brighten it a bit with software too.  There's always next time to get a better shot....
