Got a surprise while bobber jigging for gills this morning.


Picture doesn’t do it justice. Might be the biggest smallie I’ve caught in the canal. Hit that little ice jig with a piece of crawler on it. Had another on for a minute or two.

When all else fails for me this time of year and the water is cold they will always bite that .....

Set up a good old rod with a slip bobber. I’m going back with a mission.

Went back this morning and tried the little slip bobber I made yesterday. Worked like a charm after I came back home to replace the bobber stop and dig up a smaller bead.



Found a bunch of 7-8” gills. All went back for the future generations. Only bass I saw was the one that tried to eat my bobber.

Almost succeeded too.

Gonna warm up, take a nap and then go try some catfish bait I made the other day.
