Title: adkRoy's Adirondack adventures( summertime pics updated page 6)
Post by: adkRoy on Apr 03, 2006, 10:10 AM
I hiked back into the Southern Adirondacks Mountains to try a new stream Sunday and caught these four whoppers!

Obviously I released them. Unfortunately they were the only ones I caught.

They are very pretty Adkroy. Some streams only produce little ones and they are the tastiest ones anyways :)

They're not fish but I think they are way more tasty. These ladies were feeding outside my door this morning. I snapped pictures of them just before I left for work.

After a week off, I finally got my pictures loaded onto photo bucket. Here are some easter Sunday fishing pictures.  This was on my hometown lake of Mariaville. My brother was the only one to catch anything. He got a nice pickerel on worm and bobber.
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi3.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy62%2FadkRoy%2Ffish013.jpg&hash=0755011d40185fb3272e1ff6280db4b9)(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi3.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy62%2FadkRoy%2Ffish014.jpg&hash=d3c089d454f6cbf782ff2ead7fa9da27)

I also hit up many streams in the southern Adirondacks. I took my telesoping pole, some small hooks and a can of worms and caught these nice brookies. I did not take a picture of all my fish. just a few. All fish were caught and released.

Also last week I discovered fishing for suckers. I did not know they grew this big but they sure do put up a good fight on light tackle.

Bigred, I was using a light pole with a zebco 202 with 6 pound line. It was like salmon fishing on the salmon river only slightly smaller fish.

Actually Big Burk I can't stand the taste of fish. I just like to catch and release. I snagged them using a small split shot and a treble hook. Man they were alot of fun. There were hundreds of them just sitting in the stream. A couple of times I was able to reach down and grab them bare handed.

I don't know if snagging them is the best way to C&R fish though :-\ ;) Unless it's right in the mouth.

I can assure you that most of them were caught in the mouth. They are a very hardy fish.  I had one wiggle out of my hands, hit head first on a rock, then hit the water and swam away like nothing happend.

Alright boys and girls, it's that time of year again, when the blackflies come out and trout really start biting. I explored some more streams in the souther Adirondacks by stratford and caught a few trout. I took picts of these two beauties because they didn't fall off my hook before I could get my camera out. ;D One of these days I am going to remember to bring a net with me. ::)

Friday I had to go to Cooperstown and brought the pole with me. I stopped at a fishy looking stream and caught these little chubby mystery fish.

Sunday we hiked into Broomstick lake. You need a small boat or raft to fish because the beavers have raised the water level not leaving anyplace to fish but was very scenic.

With all the rain we've been getting it has been a while since I've been able to fish. I got to fish for about a half hour between rain storms this weekend in the old hometown. Nothing like fishing the old fashion way with a worm, hook and bobber. My brother and I caught numerous perch and bluegills. After a while I stopped taking pictures otherwise I would have used up my memory chip. They are not record breakers, but they are fun to catch.

Nice bunch of pictures in the last couple of updates. I know the stream you were fishing at and the field that the deer are always in. The stream does hold some decent brookies, That hole you were fishing at gets hit pretty hard for the first week of trout season :)

I finally got out with some good weather yesterday evening. My girlfriend and I het her family's camp in the southern Adirondacks. We fished for an hour before she started kicking my but with this small perch and 23 inch pickerel.

I then started catching rockbass after rockbass. I figure Maine or Michigan would want them for their stew.

Its t he same with my significant other. She doesn't get out quite as much as I do due to her other interest (i.e. her passion for horses) But when she does she's a pretty (literally) competitive angler.

With Saturday's rainy weather I went traveling through the Adirondacks checking on some new fishing areas when I came across this unusual fisherman.
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi3.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy62%2FadkRoy%2FJune018.jpg&hash=f5ea848c1964c91ea5ccbef333b7ceb6)
Sunday was way to windy to take the boat out so I hiked over to Otter lake to give it a try. I found out later that there isn't much fish in there because of acid rain. But it was beautiful.

My neighbor has a tout pond stocked with Rainbows. Last night I feed them for him and took some shots of the feeding frenzy. It's good therapy. Unfortunately nobody is allowed to fish the pond.

My business partner has an artesian well that pours a steady stream of water into a 12 to 15 ft diameter pond in his back yard. He has raised rainbows in there that have grown to as big as 13 lbs. He feeds them with pellets, they are a lot of fun to watch. He's had an awful time with mink though, they've cleaned him out twice. I don't think he has any fish in it now. Stupid varmints.  >:(

He said he'll begin harvesting in the fall. Some are a good 16-18 inches. The biggest trouble he's had is with blue heron.

Out on Cape cod the ponds are full of smallies that will start a frenzy like that in the evening when the herring start to run.  Awesome top water action.  It's all in the timing!

How deep does a pond have to be to keep trout alive?

This pond is 20 feet deep and has a fountain to help keep it aerated in the spring, summer and fall. It is about 3/4 acres in size.

Father's day weekend was probably the most open water fishing I have done in years. I couldn't believe the number of rockbass I caught. :o I stopped taking pictures after a while because I was running out of space on my digital card. I think Michigan must have planted them in our lakes to sabotage us.
