Epic farm pond fishing!

A few days before my “incident”, I was camping at my buddy’s farm near Clarion. He does not farm it, but he and friends hunt it every year. He is not a big fisherman, but there is a decent size farm pond on the “back 40”. He fishes it a couple times a year.

We fished it for about 3 1/2 hrs the one morning(first day it was fished all season). It was EPIC, to say the least! We caught a few Crappie and Gills, but 95% of fish caught were bass!

The first 2 hrs I did not go 3 casts without getting a hit or catching a fish!(I was using a plastic leach with long tail on a jig head, so missed a lot when they grabbed the tail instead of hook)
(This one I actually snagged in the eye- OUCH!!!!!

The last 90 min, the bite slowed a bit, but I STILL did not go more than 4 casts without at least getting a hit! It was just non-stop action! Never had a day even close to this!

We didn’t catch anything HUGE, but for numbers of fish, it was Unsurpassed!

Farm ponds can be a blast to fish for bass. Thanks for sharing. Only downside is if fished much over time the bass get harder to catch due to their finite numbers. Obviously as you indicated that pond doesn't get fished much.
Another thing I like about farm ponds is the quiet solitude vs. the public lakes.

You’re right- we fished it last year after others fished it more and bass were harder to catch. But we did catch more Crappie.
Just so nice fishing it because of the solitude and lack of pressure!

Ponds like that are fun with top water baits. I am jealous of your access to it!

Only drawback is it is on the other side of the state(5.5 hr drive), so I only get to fish it once or twice a year!

Thanks! Yeah, one of my buddies said it will take one heck of a story to beat that one!
But honestly, I would rather NOT have a great story!

love the pics...thanks for sharing. i have niece that has a couple ponds...not quite as big as yours to fish but i have a good time with the gills, crappie and bass. i usually go there and try out my new lures that i make to see how the fish respond...i tried my new foam gurgler for gills the other day..worked but not as well as i was hoping but tried one of my spinners and caught bass and gills on it...is nice to have something like that available, is only about a mile from my house...your pond looks awesome..thanks again.
