needed: Open water perch Info!

I just heard about the open water perch tourny at sodos bay on april 10th, and I'm very interested. I've decided to take a weekend off from trout fishing, and try something new! I've been fishing for perch through the ice for many years, and do quite well, but have never really targeted them on the soft water. I was wondering if any of guys or girls would be able to point me in the right direction: equiptment, water depth, bait, etc.. Any info you could give, would be greatly appeciated. THANKS!!!

This is what works for me....
Medium action rod. Minnows mostly for bait, fathead minnows. Either a boober rig with a jig or no bobber and a jig bouncing off the bottom. Bucktail jigs with a minnow tipped. Light line 4 lb test. Match jigs to water conditions, black and borwn often work well for me though
A common worm will work as well as will spikes/waxworms.
Hope that somewhat helps.

I agree with BuckshotJon. Tough to beat minnows if the perch are active and on a minnow bite. Rig 'em your way according to depth fished. Plastic to match water clarity although chartreues seems to be a general starting point. Scan with colors. Often one color will make the difference.
Personally, I prefer to locate a school and drop a 1/4 stick of TNT. Saves time. Refrained from doing it on the ice though.
