SHaRPS gives excellent advice.  Tis better to head them off at the pass then run right into them, just be observant, if you get lucky they may head right at you if you're stealthy.

I do try to use minimal leader pound test but I've lost plenty on their gill plate when they do the funky dance turn so I've settled on 15lb Seagar- but that's what I'm comfortable with.
