Goodbye to a public servant with brains, principles, common sense, and compassion.

Didn’t care for some of what he stood for, but he cared for Americans and did what he did with us in mind.

Agreed.  RIP

And I didn't always agree with him either Mac, but he was someone you could disagree with and still respect- unlike certain other politicians today.............

I agree with the sentiments in his politics, and his character. He was great.

May he rest in piece.

I didn't always agree with him either, but he did serve our country, never lied that I know of, had principals and ethics, and was liked by both sides of the aisle. The fact that he could have left the Hanoi Hilton early due to his father being an admiral, but refused, spoke volumes to me. He was beaten so badly there he lost full motion to one of his arms and couldn't ever comb his hair by himself again.

This was one thing that really impressed me. Not sure you can count on one hand a politician that would stick up for an opponent in a presidential election.

Look lets not make this political but are you sure about that?

5 1/2 years as a POW beaten and tortured daily
Silver Star
Two Legion of Merit Medals
Distinguished Flying Cross
Three Bronze Stars
Prisoner of War Medal

If you're referring to the smear that John was a "songbird" in the POW prison that was debunked long ago. The Fox News host that brought it up was fired for that.
His cellmates make the opposite case.

BTW I think everybody eventually talks when tortured. Some sooner than others. Some get lucky and die.

Let's keep the political acrimony out of this please. This thread will end up being pulled if not.

We (the American people) lost a wonderful person-- if more of our so-called leaders could take a few lessons from him--how much better the world would be !!! People like him don't come around often--I hope we don't waste his legacy.  Gunner

I'm not aware of those. Can you provide a link by a credible source?

Each year at the academy he had over 100 demarets
894 out of 899 in his class
crashed 3 planes before he set foot on a carrier
might have killed more U.S. servicemen than the enemy. History has been rewritten about the aircraft carrier rocket launch.
400 openings for flight school per class during his time(894 gets to go?)
4 star daddy and granddaddy (hum)
He should have never been anywhere near North Viet Nam
Lost that war due to politicians
became one
Lost to obama
enough said
rip
