Great times on the oregon coast
« on: Aug 08, 2013, 09:15 AM »
As hard as it was to leave my home waters during the hottest musky year in quite a few years the family was ready for a trip. This is the 1st time i have been to oregon and i must say it was a beautiful place to spend some time. We left early saturday before last and had our sights set on only driving to pendleton for a nights stay at the wild horse casino via a stop at hood river to enjoy a bit of shopping and some lunch at the full sail brewery. The atmoshpere in hood river was close to park city but the focus was mainly on kite boarding the windy channel of the columia river gorge and of course winery's. This dark sessions went down smooth with a nice BBQ pork sammy

After that we stopped in at a few water falls and man were they sweet

we finnally arrived at our 1st nites destination and was pretty beat. The kids did some swimming at the pool and we called it a night.  Woke up early the next morning and decided to do a little gambling while everyone was getting ready and managed to pull $1000 off a penny slot before we left and guess what, it was a fishing video slot  8) after a few detoured side roads we finally made it tou our destination for the week and it was impressive. This was the view from our back door

While here we managed to see some gray whales, seals, sea lions and alot of real noisy birds that didnt shut up 24/7. On the 2nd day we hooked up with a local charter and hit the open seas to do some crabbing and bottom fishing. What an adventue it turned out to be as it was like a lottery evertime you hooked up wondering what you had on. These 1st pics were heading out & setting the crab pots up

this shot is from the ocean side of where we were staying

After a few hookups the ocean had its way with my eldest stepson, poor guy

and the rest of us had a blast

The crabbing wasnt to bad either although another charter boat laid his pots right on top of us  >:(

these guys had us all hooked up when we hit the dock and at the resonable price they charged i was all down for having them take care of it

Now i didnt get all the pics from the trip as my wife was taking most. We did see 3 light houses and went up to the tillamook cheese factory, also stopping at the blue heron french chesse factory and winery. These pics are from cape mears, the 1st is called the octopus tree and it was cool

This is a bananna slug we found crawling on a tree. This thing looked like a twinky when shriveled up and was about 8-10in when moving

Cool little shroom

After we left there we went to pacific city and enjoyed a nice sampler at the pelican brewery with some tasty lunch

It was really cool in this little beach town watching the dory boats come in running right up the sand , very interesting way to load up the boat after a day out on the water. Heres a short video of one coming in. I didn't film the whole process but after they get out of the boat they walk up to the truck/trailer back down then hook the boat to back of the trailer and drag it up to dry sand. Then they push the trailer under the boat, the rollers slide it right up and on, Winch it up tight and they are outta here. Pretty cool

All in all this was a great trip and will always be thinkling of going out there again  :thumbup_smilie: :thumbup_smilie:

Those are some great pictures...   What an awesome vacation with the family...  It looks like it was worth giving up musky fishing for a week.... ;D

Now that looks like a totally awesome time even though you left the ole Tiger Musky fishing behind for the trip.  Awesome pics and after the sea sickness I'm sure memories were made for all.  Good on you the family will be talking about this trip for a long time... :) :)
