nice fish!! cant wait to go
-
nice stripes, would love to get back into them. Maybe this year.
FISH ON!
-
Nice fish. But, most importantly, it is nice to see young guys fishing instead of runnin the streets. Keep it up, youl go far.
just my 2 cents
-
Thanks,
The boys love to fish. My oldest is now driving and he can't wait to get out after school and hit the river with his friend. Much better than other alternatives.

It's not always about the fish. The scenery brings you back as well. Here's some pics I took at some of my favorite fishing holes:

Great pictures, never seen the black hole like that, and I agree. I like the surfs up on Saratoga, just a little bit of water that spring.
Drove my the Batinkill today, looking good, alittle color.
Got to wait till next week to hit the streams, good luck this opener.

Slipbob,
I agree. The camera is a must. We were fishing the backwaters of Coveville on the Hudson for bass last summer when to my son's surprise, the Manfish of Coveville appeared from the scum when I took this quick shot:

Hey Bartman where did ya go? I was out with a buddy all day saturday on the Kayaderosseras and did not even see a fish. Lost of people out though and they were having just as much luck as we did ???
-
Deposit,
I was fishing Vermont and Mass. that day. I fork over the extra 80 (40 each) bucks each year to get nonresident licenses in those states because their borders are fairly close to my home in NY and they have pretty good stocking programs. On Mass's Fish &Game website, they even give a weekly listing of the waters that they stock.
Have you ever been to the village of Deposit? Pretty good trout there too.
-
Bartman,
No I have not. I live very close to the border as well and was thinking of heading up the batenkill towards benington. may be this weekend
-
HAHAHAHAHAAA! Great photos Bartman! Love them all... the lounge chair guy is a beauty!

Just got back from a little family vacation on the outer banks of North Carolina. Did a little fishing and caught a bunch of types fish including stripers, bluefish and seatrout, needlefish, puffers, sea bass, drum , etc. Most ran small but lots of fun. Also went to a free exhibition of NC state record fish mounts at one of the piers (Jeanette's) that was blown away from Hurricane Isabel last year. All they asked for was a donation to help rebuild the pier. Nice display of fish including a sixteen foot blue marlin. I couldn't help the last photo. . . I just had to do that.

Sounds like a great time on the Banks. The last picture is awesome, maybe they can turn that one into a commercial. ;D Looks like you and the family had a great time, now the boys have to come home and get ready for yucky school. :P Where abouts did your son catch that sea trout, did you guys go out on a boat or was it off a bridge some where. Great pictures and that was one hugh yellow fin.

Not much fishing this weekend as raking piles of leaves took priority. I did get out just a bit from the shore and jigged up some perch and this 30 something pike. Also caught a 7 pound cat.

Nice fish Bartman!!!
-
Nice ones Bartman :D
-
??? hey bartman/camo or anyone else that catches pike around locks 1,2,3,4,ect. on the hudson, do you notice the color of them, kind of silverish with white spots ? Is it because of there habitat or is that what river pike looks like ???? There not the greenish color of ther cousins that live in the lakes....tight lines guys
-
My guess is that they are of a different strain and it's the environment too. Most Hudson pike are cleary silvery and their white spots are smaller and unique. It's just not river vs. lakes though. The Mohawk river pike have completely different markings. These pike have more pronounced and bigger spots. The top two photos are Hudson fish, the last two Mohawk. Completely different markings yet all river fish.

Not much fishing lately, just some perch fishing for a few hours in Waterford this weekend. While I was there yesterday, the Bounty was locking through. It's the actual ship that was used in the movie "Mutiny on the Bounty." You never know what you're going to see down there.

wow that looks like fun nice fish
-
Huge fish man. Looks like a great time was had. So do you eat those then, or put them back?
-
WOW nice mess of stripers, seems the fishing was better today than yesterday WTG guys
-
;) awesom bartman, the third picture looks like a hybrid striper ? I hear there in there...had to be twenty boats in the coeymans are alone today and at least twenty more to the north to bethelem....seen guys drifting by the tower jigging up herring..alot of comorants just north of coeymans on the west..in the trees...again awesome stripers wtg...tight lines.. ;)
-
couldn't get any big ones ??? ;)
man! those are some huge fish-the kids gotta have some sore arms after battling a few of those.
-
Nice goin Bart, they are a blast. I dont think the third one is a hybrid but it does have some broken lines, I have seen a bunch of ocean run bass with similar markings, the hybrids usually have very prominant broken stripes rstarting right behind the head, but ya never know. WTG bart :thumbup_smilie:
-
:o Jebus Bartman. Those things are massive. You and mb3 must have had one heck of a fun day catching those. I'd be psyched to catch just one. Do you ever keep any to eat? I hear that's some of the best tasting fish. Never had it myself but it's supposed to be really good.
I can honesty say that I've never kept a fish to eat out of the Hudson but I've eaten a few smaller ones that I've caught from the coast of Maine and they're good eating and fillet up nice.
Yes WNY, the kid's arms (and armpits) were so sore that he had to let me land a few.
Would have been good out there today but had to work all day. Will be back at them Thursday and Friday.
-
Awesome stripers, man what a day, great fun. :o ;D
Wish :'( I could go Thurs-Fri. but got to work. :-\
But, if toga doesn't call be back Mon. or Cossayuna, I would like to hit some stripers.
The panfish are starting to heat up too.
Great fish, WTG ;D 8)
-
Was supposed to hit the Hudson again today but opted for some flyfishing instead. That's the problem with the month of May, everything is going at the same time.
Maybe back to the stripers tomorrow.
After I picked the right fly, I scored big. Browns ran small but the bows were mega. Caught and released about 15.

Do you keep any trout for dinner?
Mostly C&R but I occasionaly take a few trout home for dinner. I'm mostly a panfish eater.
Took MB3 and his friend out today for a few hours in Schodack. His friend never caught a striper before and his first one was the little one pictured below that he thought was a "big" one. Then he got into the next one and when he got it alongside the boat he said something like "Holy S%$#@"
Take a kid (or two) fishing!!! Fun stuff.

Haven't posted at all lately due to a broken digital camera but bought a new one recently. Still need to develop and post some June, July photos taken the "old" way.
Anyway, here's a few taken recently from the home waters and a few Adirondack trips.

WOW, I mean, WOW. I just really the that set of pics. I truly admire you and and your love for the outdoors. It truly impresses me that you routinely share your love with your son and pass such a grand tradition on for many generations to come through your sons. I believe you are another kind of hero; The kind of hero who passes on tradition and respect for the outdoors and all the wonder and excitement to be found. My hats off! Cheers!!

great pictures Bart. ;D Awesome stuff, glad to hear and see some nice Adirondack pictures.
Can't wait to see some OBX pictures when you get back, have a safe trip. And we'll have to try and hook-up when the kids go back to school.
Fish On!
-
Great Pictures Bart. Look at the colors on that smallie!!! I have never seen one with their pattern so promenant and dark before! Usually they are pretty faded
-
That first pic is awesome, nice fish too, the Adks are the best place on earth.
-
Those are some great pictures there Bartman...just awesome!
-
Hey Bart:
Are those canoe photos taken in the St. Regis/Fish Creek Pond/Rollins Pond area in Franklin County? I was just there a few weeks ago and it sure looks familiar. But then again, alot of the watyerways up there look very similar. Just wondering. Great photos and continued good luck.
-
Thanks all.
Yes, Hookset - Stayed at Meacham. Floated some of St. Regis and Deer River flows.
How's the track treating you?
-
Back from the outerbanks of NC. Took a million pics but I'll spare the beach, golf and Civil War battle site shots. Caught some sea trout and finally did the pier thing which was actually more fun than I thought it would be. Kids caught one fish after another. Also, no vacation would be complete without a final stop at the tackle shop.
Lastly, my college-bound oldest got out the past few evenings with his friend and he's getting some decent smallies. My turn is coming soon.

those are some chunky smallies!! I think i recognize the background ;) nice fish!
-
What were the smallies hitting??
-
Nice smallies, they are some fatties... Those cabelas stores are unreal, i have been to the one in Michigan and the place is like a museum in many ways. The mounts are enormous and the tanks full of big fish, did u get to see them throw the baitfish in the tank? Great Photos!!

Didn't see that at Cabela's but saw the frenzy once at Bass Pro. The bass were the quickest.

Wow, slammin' smallies, that looks like a blast.
Hey Bart, the track has been picking my bones clean. I am contributing to my own local economy! I hope to make it all back over the weekend at the Travers, but historically, that's a nightmare of beer swilling and lost money. Oh well! Continued good luck! By the way, great birthday gift.
Looking to adopt a 35 year old?
-
Looking to adopt a 35 year old? Actually Hookset, I just dropped my oldest off at college yesterday so I have room for another.
Here's a few recent photos that were taken with "real" film when the digital broke. I'm sure Marbury will be posting the pickerel in the tourney. Will probably be on the Hawk somewhere tomorrow night.

very nice pictures and great fish. ;D AWESOME pike 8)
-
Got out with Marbury this evening. 5 minutes into the trip he hits this 20 inch bass. We also got into some regular size bass and pike, then I switched to the big stuff and got this gator, just a shade under 42 inches. Released it quickly, eventhough it broke the hook right off of my bait. Yahoo!

nice fish from ... ;D, think i might head there in a few minutes, not sure, either there or 'toga. you would think they would make those big lures with stronger tackle. jeese!
-
AWESOME FISH :o That is a nice looking pike bait, on the hunt for "Jaws". ;) ;D
-
Now, that's a pike! Can't believe it thrashed your bait like that. Must not have been designed to withstand the punishment an Upstate NY northern can dish out. Great pics!
Been reading the racing form all day today in preparation for tomorrow. I don't know why I bother, my wife picks them by the colors of the silks the jockey is wearing and cashes more tickets than I do. May have to resort to throwing darts!
-
Bart:
Awesome fish!!!
Muskyman2
-
Now thats a gator!!! had a musky do somethin similar when it thrashed the hook right off a zara spook and lost her at the boat....good to see yours caught and released, nice largie too!! :)

Marbury had Flower Alley accross the board yesterday. He made me stop and bet it at OTB on the way to a party. Hope you did well also.
-
Nope, laid off of Flower Alley. Actually, not an awful day. Walked in and hit on a medium-sized bet and I worked off of the voucher for the rest of the day. Beautiful day to be trackside, the 'surroundings' are always lovely. One of these days I'm going to make money instead of donating. But not this year...
-
bartman- Nice pike!! I wish I could catch them that size
-
Here's 6 shots I took in September from 6 different NY bodies of water. Lots and Lots of water, too little time.

Started the trout season yesterday with a little spin fishing.
MB3 got the first trout of the year (below) on a blue fox spinner.
Jumped around a lot and landed about 10 total. Not bad for day one.

Yep, you guessed it Camo. We were in the land of Paul Revere - season's open there now.

Nice trout!

Great looking fish guys! I love that 4th pic ;)

Great trout and nice looking stream, that hole just screams brown trout below!!!

nice trout

Good job Bartman and son. It is now Trout time and soon it will be walleye time down at the pond. Only 5 weeks away now and we'll have to meet up again and catch a few eyes after work. 8)
Thanks for the posts everyone.
Actually Slip, I've been practicing some legal C&R river walleye action in the evenings the past two weeks and been doing well, though no monsters. It's a nice feeling carefully working that jig & twister tail off the bottom and BAMMM, eye on!
Drove past the pond the other day and it looked very inviting, get your new home in order now.
By the way, I just bought MB that pair of Hodgeman Streamlights he's wearing in the pic above and they are crap. After three hours of fishing, they started leaking in the seams. Returned them to Dick's today and I'll be ordering a better pair for him on Cabela's tonight. You get what you pay for.

Got out this morning for 4 hours. It was Marbury's lucky day and I
was the April fool. He catches this nice rainbow(first pic) on his "first"
cast of the day :o on his favorite blue fox spinner.
I lose a BIG one a short time later and never mentally recover from it >:(
He then proceeds to catch 5 nice brown trout to my one rainbow.
20 minutes before the cold front comes through, he nails this 20 inch
brownie in my face. Final score - Marbury 7, Bartman 1.

Nice fish you guys :thumbup_smilie: Hey Marbury, ease up on your dad a bit

Nice work on catching some trout, you guys. 8) That brown has very nice coloration to it. Good work.
-
very, very nice looking brown there at the end. :clapping: :thumbup_smilie: WTG not bad at all for an opener morning. The last few years have been cold and nasty out, this year with the warm weather, looks like an awesome morning to start the trout season. :clapping: :thumbup_smilie:
-
SWEEEET goin guys! Still freezin cold rivers up here and we got pounded with heavy rain...no fish. Hope your goin back tomorrow, keep it up!!! Go NY :flex:
-
Great day out on the local streams with a bunch of nice fish and a real big brown wtg :)
-
great brown
-
Nice fish guys..er..uh.. I mean Marbury. lol ;D. I like the hat Marb ;)
-
Thats one heck of a brown trout!!!
-
Nice brown your boy got. If it is the stream i think it is, there are some real beautiful 20 inch plus trout in there.
At least one as that puppy went right back in the water to grow some more.
That's enough with the Bartman ribbing. It's bad enough here at the house. He's also outgrown me at 13 and he's calling me shorty. It's time for me to break out my secret weapon (the fly rod) ;)
-
We hit the Delaware River system for a few days. Windy days but where we found slack water we found some good fish rising to caddis, stones and blue quills. Nymph fishing the big riffles produced some jumbo rainbows too.

WTG Bart and Marb!!! Nice fish from the BIG D!
-
Great fish....I grew up on the Delaware and just love fishing it.
-
Those are some beautifull trout! Some great pics of the "kid" at work also ;) Did you get him some waders that don't leak now? lol :D
-
Looks like it was a fun trip!! I'm jealous.
-
Great bunch of pics Bartman. I spent many, many a day wading that river when I was younger down near Hale Eddy and Hancock in search of trout. Some great shad fishing too down past Hancock in May. Did you fish the East branch at all? That water rolling out of Cannonsville is COLD man, cold :D
Didn't fish the east this time but I've floated it. Some real deep holes. Pea's eddy is a lake.
West Branch was 45 degrees. We actually were on the bridge at Hale eddy the other day looking down when a school of gizzard shad went through.
Pike guy, his waders leak again. Called Cabelas today and they're shipping me a new pair.
-
Can't buy anything these days and expect it to be trouble free. :-\
-
some great shots and beautiful trout - been 10 yrs since my last flyfishing trip there-got to make it back there one of these days .
thanks for sharing

Congrats,
Ozzy

It was tough to find the time in May to get away but I did manage to break away from work to find some quality fishing. I managed a striper trip with the kid & his friend, got back down to the Big D for some big rainbows sipping sulfers on the edge of the tall grass, did some special regulations bass fishing with both boys on the river, got Marbury up to the Ausable to further his flyfishing skills on easy-to-catch trout, and even got a few walleyes that are the subject of tonight's dinner.

Great pics!! 8)
-
More great pics..big surprise ;)! Way to go guys :clapping:
-
My God, Bart! I take a few months off and you and the boys catch everything that swims. Great pics! I will probably see you in the lagoon at some point, the slop is ultra-thick and it's scum frog time! Great season so far, continued good luck!
BTW, we are rebuilding the shanty! See you in the same place next ice season. Hope we don't sink this time, that got a bit expensive.

HEY, Hookset's back :thumbup_smilie: :thumbup_smilie: I take it you'll have more fishing time now. Also, I'd move the shack just a bit to the left ;)
Thanks for the comments all, I have no idea where I'm going to fish in July - as many of you guys know I'm a river rat and my rivers are way beyond flooded at the moment.
CK - kayaks are a ton of fun but a bit sore on my back after a few hours.
-
July fishing trips were few and far between but we hit the Adirondacks
for several days camping which is never a bad call. Also got in a few river
trips and one trip to Saratoga. Kids caught some nice fish but I figured
the ADK scenery pictures were better. Threw some fish pics from the
month in at the end.

great pictures, thanks for sharing your trips out on the water and popping popcorn. ;D Some nice river pike and a nice toga LMB there at the end. ;) WOW, the weather is hot now, but hope that the weather man is right about the cool down toward the end of the week. Just in time for me to hit the local waters again.
WTG on some quality time spend with the family. :thumbup_smilie:

jurrasic pike...
hahahahahah wicked shirt!
nice pics/fish! ;D
-
Nice fish Bartman!Love the scenic view.
-
Yep, great pics! :thumbup_smilie: I have to agree with Slip though, he needs to stop looking irritated about catching fish. ;)
Mike
-
Awesome pics Bartman! Always a good read! ;D
-
Nice family trip there Bartman and it won't be long and the boys will be back to school :-\ Tell the oldest one he needs to SMILE some more when he's catching those big pike :D
Thanks everyone.
Yeah, he's been playing a lot of Texas Hold'em lately and that's his poker face. We'll try for some smiles next time. At least he should be smiling in the Jiffy Pop shot, it's as much fun to make as it is to eat.
August started well- was out with Smiley for an hour last evening and we got some nice walleyes including this one. (Don't tell me, I should be smiling ;D)

Beauty of an 'eye Bart. What was the length on that big girl?
I don't hear the walleye guys talking about it on here much, but they have been on big time the past few weeks with this hot weather.
-
very nice eye there Bartman, and I love the thumbs up to go with it. ;) :thumbup_smilie: well done.
-
looks like you had a good time, nice fish
-
Here's some August pics. The month started out with the rivers a bit high but they came down nicely mid-month which allowed us to break out the topwaters and flies in the yak and canoe. My crayfish tie didn't last long - we had several 40 fish evenings (with some bonus eyes) before we headed to North Carolina

On our way to the outer Banks of NC we stopped at the Chesepeake Bay Bridge-tunnel pull-off for a pit stop. Take a look at these signs. The guy in the white T-shirt has a case of rolling rock on his wagon. So much for the first sign
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv81%2FBartman44%2Faug5.jpg&hash=3d47f6f9441a032d0c77ae79fc83a32a)
Take a look at this pic. These 15 rods belong to one guy. So much for the second sign

We hit the pier one day on the outer banks at sunrise. The guy in the background (rod high) is fighting a 50 pound cobia. He fought it for 30 minutes and then it headed down the pier toward the "tourist" fishing area ::). Three tourists wouldn't move their poles so the cobia takes a right turn and wraps the line around the piling - SNAP! Pier's aren't my thing but they certainly have some entertainment value.

Here's MR cobia before departing for deep water

We also hit the sand in my brother-inlaw's 1973 Ford Bronco, cruising the shore for rising bluefish.
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv81%2FBartman44%2Faug7.jpg&hash=36cc2fad3b3f0c03cad0b144a2994312)
And we actually caught a wide variety of sea creatures

Finally, here's the same pier (compliments of the Avalon Pier's web cam) this evening as Tropical Storm Ernesto hits NC. (Glad we're back home in NY)

That's it for August. Good luck to all this Labor Day weekend!

Yes, Great pictures and story. I love the Outer Banks, hope to make it down next summer.
Nice looking smallies and walleye on the eye, looks like a blast.
We're going to have to find some time to hit the river this fall. What kind of vaction time do you have? or do we need to plan an after work/evening trip. ;D

Cool pics 8) Looks like a good time down on the ocean :thumbup_smilie:

Bartman , awsome crayfish fly pattern. I would love to get my hands on a few of them for the fly box!
-
Nice trip there Bartman. You are without a doubt the most "versatile" fisherman on this or any site!! You're jigging, flyfishing, ocean fishing, all kinds of fishing :D
Thanks Slip. My philosophy has always been that if one species isn't biting, another one usually is.

Send me a pm with your address and I'll be glad to whip you up a few

Kappy, we usually stay in the Nags Head/Kitty Hawk area. It's a nice place but unfortunatley, the big franchises have recently found it and I fear they'll drive out the small bars/eating establishments which give the OBX it's unique character. Per your request here's a few more. First, my view every morning from our deck. Second, another good reason to hit the OBX, nice golf courses. I got beat by my oldest on the last hole as I three putted for bogey >:(

Nice pics Bart!! I love the blatant disregard of the pier rules. You gotta have a case of rolling rock to fish 15 poles at the same time. :D That's a cool bronco...must have been fun cruising on the beach. 8)

We were on the water a lot in September. Lots of fly fishing for trout
but only one photo. The kid is getting good with the long
rod. Last two trips he landed 16 trout.

We tried for Mr Big a couple of times but came up short. We did land a
bunch in the 30 to 35 inch range.

I hit Rhode Island for a few days with the wife to celebrate our 20th
wedding anniversary. She gave me the green light to fish for an hour and
I caught a half-dozen stripers in jeans and sneakers (wish I had my waders
but hey, I got to fish on my anniversay - gotta love the wife)

Did some bass fishing also. Check out the first bass Marbury is holding.
It has a black X on his tail. I've seen black blotches on bass before
but never a letter of the alphabet. If we catch it next year, we'll know it.

That could be it for me for photos as MFF is winding down.
Good luck to all the MFF hunters this month - stay safe in the woods,
we need you on IS.
-
what an awesome smallie there to rap her up. But, I'm sure that you'll get out a few more time before ice up. ;)
Great pictures and great quality time. It's great to get away for the Anniversary and being able to bring the fishing pole along. :thumbup_smilie: My wife let me fish on her birthday while she was at home for the day. ;) Great women when they tell ya, just go fishing, see ya in a few. ;)
Fish On!

great variety!

Way to go on the bass and pike Bartman. 8)
Man, some of that water looks like you are fishing on a green felt carpet.
I think the fish would be going by sound only with your surface frog.
On your previous post nice drum, walleyes, striped bass and trout. :)
WW
-
man, i can't believe i haven't seen this thread yet. marbury and bartman way to go - looked at the first page to the last and am very impressed by the stripers and all the trout, especially the big browns and rainbows. very inspirational

Nice fish Bartman.I think I might know that spot ;)
Smallies were going crazy in the main river last couple times there too. :thumbup_smilie:
