Title: Utah Boys 2014
Post by: muskyon46 on Mar 28, 2014, 11:02 PM
This year has started out ok on the soft water, The spring walleye always starts it off for me and whom ever i can drag along  ;D This year the #'s are pretty low in my opinion and even worse than last. So far only one eye for me, fishon1 & phishinphool's 1st

and on the down side we pulled over 8 carp in 3 trips tossing for the evasive eyes, most ever in my boat  :-\

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1225.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fee399%2Fmuskyon46%2FIMG432.jpg&hash=7ec4d7f5dfbbdd0f377a2d62eba85248)

Even with the dirty carp you cant beat days like this on the water

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1225.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fee399%2Fmuskyon46%2FIMG428-1.jpg&hash=8419544c79c2cdd207c8ef6ffcea2ea8)

Today we got out to one of our favorite ice off lakes for some trout action and pulled over 30 bows between 2 of us, this one just couldn't get enough with the fresh meal he already had in his mouth and took our offering

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1225.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fee399%2Fmuskyon46%2FIMG485.jpg&hash=e3a98c22128709a0c7ee5774e7ffbaa3)

Even got some fresh jiggin bait with this 22in fat sucker

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1225.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fee399%2Fmuskyon46%2FIMG489-1.jpg&hash=1ac03bf24bba4870c99e8e0698b2977e)

Decided with the help of prospector to put me a new toon together for the waters where i cant get my boat and i must say it turned out pretty good and hopefully i will get its maiden voyage in over the next week

Nice going muskyon64, those are a nice variety of fish you guys found. :)
Good to see someone on the open water all ready.

Here we have almost 4 feet of ice and it's still quite cool
for this time of year. Might be ice fishing in May! ::)

Thanks FB it sure was, had another stellar outing this afternoon. Pulled 20 for the 3 0f us in 3hrs with many that got off and missed bites. Heard rumors of a 9lber that came out yesterday where we fished today, but these were the biggest size class we could get to play. Now that's a rhyme  ;D

They are a blast when they are in the false spawn, really tight to the shore. Only one small one yesterday before the "W" killed it all

Cool catches muskyon46, those wipers look like a bast to fish for. 8)
We don't have them here in SK., too bad.

Had a chuckle at your bass t-shirt in the first photo also. ;D

Thanks FB & WW, this spring is turning on good and your right FB we'll take em all day  :thumbup_smilie: Gotta luv the Head-up the Bass shirt WW  ;D We took the kids out for a few hours this evening lookin for some more wipers and couldn't have asked for any better. Weathers been hit and miss down here lately and we got some good breezes earlier today and then it all calmed down for the afternoon/evening. This was how it all got started after the 1st baits went in

This one finished it off with 4 on the stringer for the frying pan

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1225.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fee399%2Fmuskyon46%2FIMG583.jpg&hash=95b25c5c7705afff20fe89de5df33c04)

The kids had a tough time lifting this stringer up

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1225.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fee399%2Fmuskyon46%2FIMG581.jpg&hash=0ef312ca898588a7a76a82317ea1e30b)

The night was coming on and the fish had all but shut off, these views could not be better after a great afternoon hookin em up

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1225.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fee399%2Fmuskyon46%2FIMG584.jpg&hash=c04add1e6fa2ac2bf85d85961ac69845)

We caught around 15, put 4 on the stringer and missed many bites with only one rod going in the water with a great save by fishon1's daughter.

We seen this crazy rock on our way in but didn't take the time to get a closer look till we were on our way out. Looked to be something crazy goin on here

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1225.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fee399%2Fmuskyon46%2FIMG589.jpg&hash=3a44efced524f2e8f16ad194361198cf)

Thanks again FB, we made it out for a few more trips last Friday and yesterday. Friday was an all day event and the fishin was HOT all day. Got the 1st cast out around 7am and left the water at 5pm. Icecutterion had the 1st fish on with his 1st cast out with an eye. This was his 1st ever eye and wiper on the line

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1225.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fee399%2Fmuskyon46%2FIMG591.jpg&hash=fa01050ffa24214d8b21b0eeaa8ef5ee)

Phishinphool's son had blast Friday and we designated him our official netter when he wasn't reeling in his own catch

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1225.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fee399%2Fmuskyon46%2FIMG600.jpg&hash=3b1dc69da73a60e662021de8fb1faca1)

And here's a few of me and my buddies biggest for the day

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1225.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fee399%2Fmuskyon46%2FIMG594.jpg&hash=f21c4dfa4573e1562db37faa30a6c2e1)

The weather was pretty cold and wet for a day and I wasn't to motivated to go out yesterday but after my youngest stepson kept pleading with me to take him and his grandpa for some wipers and a call from my other buddy I figured I better just get off my but and load up the truck. My father inlaw had a blast in the 2 hrs we were ther before the wind/rain/hail blew us out. My father inlaw hooked into 4 and this was his 1st ever wiper

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1225.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fee399%2Fmuskyon46%2FIMG602.jpg&hash=d883b942892ffddb650fd527c4750845)

And his biggest

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1225.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fee399%2Fmuskyon46%2FIMG605.jpg&hash=990e7a9ff5dec1d05866988c6c37f11d)

My buddy hooked quite a few and his nephew was all stoked to get his 1st one in too

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1225.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fee399%2Fmuskyon46%2FIMG604.jpg&hash=7efc7ffcb7c05f2906fffefc0e7e0361)

Biggest fish went to my stepson with this 22in fattie and his 1st wiper

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1225.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fee399%2Fmuskyon46%2FIMG603.jpg&hash=e5223c26e349522cec0d6f15a4c25ec6)

For sure FB all good things. We made a few more trips out for some more wiper action and it was just the same. Hooked lots of fish and ended up with my biggest this year at 23in. The trollers were about right on our laps. lol

Nice!  It's cool to catch quality fish like that from shore!  Sometimes it's refreshing to be able to walk around and not be limited to the space in your boat.

Thanks Dom, I have waiting to see your pics start rolling in. Hope things are starting to warm up. I made it out in the boat today as my plans for an early morning top water bite was spoiled by a good storm rolling in here tomorrow morning. I guess I better thank mother nature as it turned out to be a good afternoon/evening  :thumbup_smilie: I still stuck to my plan and was throwing topwaters the whole time. Had this one in the boat another come off at the boat and seen 3 others chasing/crusing

Finally got into my 1st smallie & largies this weekend. Smallies came on Friday morning with some good top water action

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1225.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fee399%2Fmuskyon46%2FIMG615.jpg&hash=7addf3be250c2eb647f1afec6852245d)

And you couldn't beat the scenery with all this glass water and still a bit of white stuff in those hills

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1225.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fee399%2Fmuskyon46%2FIMG616.jpg&hash=5288309e5a5bbbd43e3553047fd617e0)

The largies came early this morning and they were tough in some pretty thick cover, No top waters for theses guys but the spinner baits did the trick

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1225.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fee399%2Fmuskyon46%2FIMG617.jpg&hash=052c842a3623431cde6342844974fa2e)

Got out Thursday and Friday for some more great times on the water. We did pretty good both days. Only pics I got Thursday were of phishinphools biggest smallie this year and a good looking spawn color crappie

Friday was a whole nother story, I took a good buddy of mine and he brought his carp stickin bow with us. I shot my 1st ever carp and nailed 3 others after it. He got 3. It was a great time and now I know what to tell my wife I want for fathers day  ::) I will definitely be doing that more often on slow fishin days. Here's a couple pics of some of the ones we nailed.

No bass for me that day but my buddy and my youngest stepson got into a few including this hog

So I dropped off the grid for a bit, but I have been getting out in different ways. The last month has been kind of search and replace kinda thing. It all started when I lost spark to the motor on the tracker at a tourney at the 1st of june. Now this was a trout tourney so I took the electric off not thinking I would need it as we would only be trolling. Bad idea, had to be towed in. luckily I knew 4 other boats on the water that day. So I've been going thru stuff and hope that I have it figured out. Seemed to run fine last night but only the true test on the water will tell  :-\ In the meantime I picked up a new toy

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1225.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fee399%2Fmuskyon46%2FIMG643.jpg&hash=1b27495f6587a710d0c8293996df1ebf)

and I think these will do good when ice sets in, before the snow gets too deep

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1225.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fee399%2Fmuskyon46%2FIMG640.jpg&hash=fda54bb644ae6dce477cb3b858a0526e)

Those 2-link V-bar chains are pretty wicked, picked them up for all 4 tires. Being a 2-wheel drive I'm only going to get so far before its time for the sled. So i've been doing some trail riding around the hills here with a buddy from work. Our 1st trip out we set to make it to inspiration point that over looks the Wasatch front where I live. The light was fading and we were only able to get 25 miles in that day before it was time to start heading back. Along the way there were plenty of mud holes to play in but this one was only for my buddies 4X4

Even passed through the fields of gold

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1225.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fee399%2Fmuskyon46%2FIMG664.jpg&hash=7b2cb93c5a6777bbb77fd96eb8aba61d)

With all the rain we had at that time the wild flowers were popping. The next trip we made the 45 mile loop and was greeted by a few drifts/avalanches in the Willard basin on our way up.

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1225.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fee399%2Fmuskyon46%2FIMG677.jpg&hash=70924b28106efc7d1736e8e9e11976e8)

Now when we arrived at our destination (inspiration point) we were not the only ones that made the trip that day. There were 3 other groups on wheeler and 6 trucks. The view was awesome and I cannot believe in all the years I've lived here I have never made the trip up there. This view looks over all of weber county where I live to davis county and beyond. The only thing I wish we would have seen were some mountain goats but none were in our range  :(

and even Willard bay looks small from up here, that's a lot of rock around the shores of that place

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1225.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fee399%2Fmuskyon46%2FIMG680.jpg&hash=5516d189e45066c2311f075b38fb4ee7)

Now at 9700' you really feel like your on top of the world  8) I'll definitely be making this trip again soon. Looks like i'll get the boat out next week after the holiday weekend. Then its on to Denver for the world lacrosse tournament. My youngest stepson is playing on a comp league and they have went undefeated in the last 2 tourneys. Fingers crossed it carries over into Denver as they will be playing with 48 other teams in his age division. The bracket looks like something out of a college basketball tourney  :o Tight lines everyone and have a fun and safe 4th of july where ever you may be

Thanks WW, the new ride is definitely going to get me around all year till the snow gets to deep then ill break out the sled. Sure is going to save my hyfax. Well I've still been messing with the boat motor and  last week I thought I had it fixed. Headed out to give her a run and  phishinphool hooked up this nice 41in tiger

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1225.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fee399%2Fmuskyon46%2FIMG705.jpg&hash=a7beeca8d1edbbeaf54376723434cbbe)

Turned out that I didn't fix the prob and spent a bit of time trying to get the motor going. After I got it started I didn't dare turn it off till it was on the trailer. Spent the weekend reading some boat forums and was able to indentify the prob, hopefully. Just got done putting the new part on and am planning giving it another run Friday morn. The good thing about having a broke boat is I get take it easy riding in my buddies boat. I hooked into this fat 17in smallie yesterday

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1225.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fee399%2Fmuskyon46%2FIMG706.jpg&hash=209e6b2214d51c16da2995d31180283a)

Smallie fishing has been tough around here this year as the water levels are up higher than the last few years and theres lots of cover/bait for them. So I'm guessing this might be my biggest for the year but then again theres still a lot of summer left  ;D

Tighlines everyone

Thanks Dom, looks like I got it  :clapping: :clapping: the motor ran great yesterday. No probs starting and purred like a kitten all day long. We managed a few smaller musky in the 30in range with top waters and plastics. Phishinphool had 2 bite offs and a few smaller bass. Nice day to get out, glass water most the day till the power squadron came out around noon so we headed out

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1225.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fee399%2Fmuskyon46%2FIMG707.jpg&hash=87c865cc6d3790b8f27509222ad09650)

We had some visitors that swam right up to the boat and have obviously been getting a lot of people attention. They were no spooky at all. I almost ran them over with the electric a few times. The funny thing was when we were heading out to another location they followed us swimming as fast as they could honking at us like we were best friends leaving them behind. lol

Got out for another good day on the water. Had an invite to go with another buddy in his newly fully overhauled tri-haul. He did a great job on his boat. We hooked up 3 tigers but only got one in the boat. This nice 38in

Been awhile since the last post but we have still been getting out a bit. Made the annual Veterans day weekend trip that usually marks the last boat trip and it was a good time. Im guessing with the warmer temps I'll be out again. Unlike previous years this was by far the warmest I can remember. We still bundled up in some of the ice gear on our way out. When the thick cloud layer finally broke we were able to shed the coverals but that would be it as the notorious berry "W" started up around 1pm. Water temp was 46-48deg and the moss was still present, just not as thick as it has been over the last 3 weeks. Few fish were caught in the shallows and most caught were 20-25ft. Its still a couple weeks out on being how i like it up there this time of year. Here's a couple we snapped pics of before a quick release

and the big one for the day was this hog bow
