Fishing Towels...How do you remove the STANK???
« on: Oct 26, 2007, 12:21 PM »
I am in a battle with my wife over how and when I wash my fishing towels.  They have acquired a permanent(well hoping not)fish odor.  It isn't a strong odor but is definitely there and it get more prevalent when the towels get wet.

Any Home remedies on this guys?

Good Fishing!

Yep, first use listerine mouth wash which works most of te time.

Else a combination of lemon juice and murphies oil soap should do the job.

I wash slimey fish towels all the time that my customer's fish come in. Throw them in the washer with detergent and add clorox bleach. Then into the dryer and they are as good as new.

Don't use your sick days when you are sick use them when the fish are biting. It all looks the same on your time card

Try some of the no-scent detergents you normally use during hunting season.  I've used them to destinkify some other stuff, and it worked pretty well.

I throw mine out and go to Walmart and buy another package.  After baking in the sun on my boat all summer, they are usless (unless you want to play a nasty joke on someone .:o)

Use the shower towels when they start to fray on the edges, you usually can get two or 3 good size fish towels out of it.  I did have a Gander towell once and a Vexilar towel, washed the gander towel a few times, a  little bleach does wonders.  The Vexilar towel was so thin after two fish it would be soaked so I gave the towel away to the only guy I know that still owns a vex ;)

I use a shampoo for carpet extractors made for pet urine . I works well , it's a little steep in price for towels but lasts a long time .

When we have had to much to drink up here in Maine, and forget to take the mackerel out of the cooler in August, and find them the weekend after..........We just let the good ole sun and fly's do the work for about a week, leave them out in the sun for a week and they should be fine.... :rotflol:

Open the kitchen drawer and take another one of her dish towels. Soak the old on in the sink with some dishsoap and wring it out good a few times and the smell will go away.
IF FISHING WAS WORK, I\\\'D NEVER BE SICK!!!!!!!!
