Has anyone else noticed that there are allot of dead blue gills either on the bottom in shallow waters or floating. Anyone know why this happens.

not enough oxigen in the water becaus of the kink of ice cover we had this year blue gills are the first to go

who cares blue gills are junk fish any way!!!!!

It's called winter kill. Fishman88.....bluegills play an important roll and aren't jink fish. Although I don't target them they are great to catch when fishing with children. Take a kid fishing and you'll know what I'm talking about.

No fish is junk fish. Everything in a body of water serves a purpose. Blue gills are a great forage source for gamefish like bass, pike, and muskies. without them these fish wouldnt get nearly as big as they do. And they are great for kids fishing because they can be so abundant. any fish can be fun on ultralight tackle.

Mongo - Yes it effects all species of fish however since in most bodies of water there are more pan fish than any other species that's what you'll see most effected by winter kill.
