I have a question. Please don't laugh I really don't know.   what do you use for bait/ lures for salmon fishing.  I have never fished for salmon.  I live less then an hour from pulaski.  I have never gone.  don't even know where to start.  any help would be useful.   Jigs, spinners,  live bait??

thanks
jim

You should also check out the regs for the salmon river prior to fishing it.  Such as, if you use spinners you can only have one hook, etc.

Good info from the prior posts Jim! Keep checking in on here....when a run of salmon starts, head to the river and watch what other anglers are doing and using. You should get educated pretty quick that way. Salmon and steelhead fishing is a blast! Good luck!

Thank you everyone.  I'll be honest I've never heard of the sponge thing before ever.   I think Kingperch has an excellent idea of heading out to watch. I'm not far at all and that is probably the best way to learrn.   Thanks again.

^^^^^^  X2 what trapper said, most guys ( you will be able to spot the ones that will not) will be more than willing to show you the ropes while on the river.

Trapper and lunchbox,

thank you very much.  I grew up on  the St Lawrence fishing perch, pike, smallmouth.  this isn't something we fished for as kids.   It's very foreign to me.

thank you,
 Jim P

2 days of strong east winds flipped the lake over and we got 1.70 inches of rain last night, could be a few kicking around Saturday...  Last nights rain just saved our labor day weekend, now we got enough water up there for the release.
