Fishfinder for underr $200
« on: Jun 07, 2011, 08:54 PM »
Anyone have any recommendations/experience with a fishfinder for under $200? I'm looking at maybe either a Lowrance Mark-5X or a Humminbird 560 but I'm open to other suggestions.

I totally recommend shopping for a used one. May take a while to find the right deal, but you can get twice the unit for the same money.

I own the Lowrance x67c IceMachine, which is a portable unit. It's a great tool on the ice, and I'm able to use it with my pontoon boat, jon boat and kayak with a suction cup skimmer transducer. Very versatile.

I see that a used unit recently sold on eBay for around $110.  I would have snatched it up just to have a spare had I known!

I am not normally brand loyal but I'd recommend Humminbird.

I don't own either unit you mentioned but I do have the Humminbird 570.  Paid $175 NIB on fleabay.  I have been continually amazed at that fishfinder and it far out preforms my more expensive units.  I'm looking at the 560 for another boat.

I think hummingbird makes a good low end fishfinder. I would be more than leary of ebay deals on the net, but that is just me on electronics, some maybe good deals as people upgrade and sell thier old ones, but I would bet that alot of times also your buying someone elses problems just my two cents worth.

I was happy with my old Eagle 320 and 480 units, but wanted a GPS as well. A friend was upgrading to a larger screen and I was able to get his Humminbird 787c for half what a new one costs. I added a portable pack and Ice xducer, now it does everything all I have to do is snap the unit on the different base and go. I just had it on my remote QC trip (I missed this fish). It also has a flasher mode, and dual frequency.

I've got the 560 not a bad unit for the money.  I would look around get the best you can get. Ebay is the way to go.

A bit more info? How deep do you normally fish? What fish species are you normally targeting? I love the username, I am new to yakking but am hooked.... so to speak.
