Baits

I have questions about catfish.
1. What is a catfish's preferred bait in early may?
2. Where do i find them?
3. What kinds of tackle do i need?

Any info would help! :)

What kind of cats are you after? For big channels a thick sucker steak is great early on. Do you need some pics of rigs for catching bait and cats? I could post up some rigs i use for both if you like.  :)

Earlier in the season I've always done fine with leeches and fathead minnows.  Nightcrawlers just after a rain.  Cut suckers always work, but I like smelt earlier in the season.
Slip bobber fishing and ice lounger.

Cut bait is always good but nothing leaves a scent trail and pieces coming off better than chicken livers in my mind.  Beef liver cuts work good as well, but the blood trail doesnt last as long (doesnt need to when they're hitting) and doesnt give off a trail of pieces as well as chicken.
