all the local streams in my area were blown out mudd from heavy rain last night so we had to make a road trip up north.we finaly got there about 11 am ,a lot of guys were already leaving when we arrived saying the fishing was lousy and nobody was catchin anything,we figured already drove way out here so we might as well at least wet a line - GLAD WE DID. we ended up catching a bunch of fish and had a great time . out of all the other guys in the area we only seen one hook a fish....we must have been using magic bait. ::)

THANKS GUYS, i'm glad some of you enjoyed our near magazine quality photoghaphy :w00t: JUST KIDDING :P since i got my new digital camera last year i think i have almost as much fun photographing as i do fishing - helps to have a big memory stick that holds over 220 pics to get a good shot once in a while :P having to reduce the image quality down under 60k dosnt do those trout justice.
this has to be my favorite time of the year to be out on the streams with the fall foliage,crisp autum air and colorful trout ;)

Another nice catch. Glad to see your fishing partner could make it. I don't think you are so much using magic bait, as I think it's just the fact you are a good fisherman and know what you are doing, versus the other 98% of anglers who don't. ;D It's good to be in the minority. ;D

im not as good a fisherman as i wish i was-had a huge rainbow in the 20 lb range have his way with me and broke me off in a snag after doing battle for nearly 10 minutes :'(
the old saying around here is 10% of the fisherman catch 90% of the fish ,or something like that.i think its gotta be a lot higher when your talking trout seein how there one of the easiest fish to catch next to bluegills,perch and crappie.
when water conditions are ideal even beginners look like old pros getting multiple hookups and landing big trout.,but under tough conditions like low& clear- heavy fishing pressure or high off color water its good to know your stuff,have a few tricks up your sleeve and be able to catch a few fish when most others are going fishless. ;D yes it is good to be in the minority :P

Great pics. :clapping: Had the luck to hook into a 12lb steelie in the niagara many years back. I landed him and thought about mounting it but released to grow larger. Having to climb 300 plus stairs to the parking area helped to put him back in the water also. :laugh: Those pics helped bring back many memories of the fun I used to have down in the gorge and on lake ontario with my buddies every year. Keep'm coming if you get more ;)

the creek cleared up nicely from last weeks rain and still had a little color to it making for a great days fishing.we got there a little late and had to fish used water that was already worked over pretty good but we still caught and released at least 20 fish piece for the day and lost many more.no monsters but a lot of hard fighting 5-8 lb'ers.

Another awesome day on the water guys!! You're killing me with all those great steelies! This is the first year in at least the last 10 I'm not going to make it up to tangle with some. :'( Keep the great pics coming I enjoy them very much.

what a terrible day of fishing :-\ only landed 13 fish between us today but they were good ones. was nice to have a t-shirt weather day in late october.
started off with a 30 inch female brown trout don't know how much it weighed but i know it was well over 10 lbs easy.

Man :o those are some awesome fish :o wish I had a fall time place like that to fish around me. our in NY, right, where abouts? it's a crazy long drive for me, but for some awesome fun fishing like that, I think I would go for a drive. got silk of the crowds in owesgo and altmar, I stopped going.

we were fishing one of the lk ontario tribs in ny-its just as crowded as all the other popular spots but we fish in the afternoon when the crowds start to thin out and fish used water- a lot of the bows we were catching had hooks in their mouths from breaking other guys lines but we got em to bite again with our magic egg sacs ;)

never seen so many eggs in a brown before :o- one more like that and i'm set for the year with bait.
see'in how i got home early from michigan and the kids had the day off for election day ,i voted that we hit up one of the local nearby streams for a little afternoon steelhead fishing ;D
everyone must have been out voting -we had most of the creek to ourselves.
for only a few hours of fishing we had one of our best days, the fish were running up the creek with the rising waters from the rain and we hooked into 40 or so fish and landed a little over half of e'm in just a few hours.

SMALL STREAMS= BIG FUN ;D
our favorite stream was still muddy from the rain so we headed out west to fish one of the smaller tribs. caught a bunch of nice hard fighting steelhead.the kid outfished me again and landed the 2 biggest fish of the day ;)
released them all to be caught again

got out for a few hours today and fished one of the lake ontario tribs up north. what a difference a week makes -last week all the salmon i saw were half dead spawned out fish- a small run of fresh chinook salmon came in a couple days ago along with a fair amount of big browns.

had this brown trout swim rite up to me and stayed a while,i must be invisable to the fish with my camo waders,jacket and hat ;)

Man your turned cohos and king look much different than sea run strains like i have. Your salmon are much more brown and ours are much more reddish.

had every color except blue-seen some guy's from p.a abosolutely hammering the big browns on blue mesh egg sacs- never tried blue before ,i'll have to add some to my arsenal.

WNY....I recognize that creek from your pics. How is the snagging situation this year? Fished it twice last year and was disgusted both times watching scum snag browns, rip them open for their eggs, and then dump the carcasses in the bushes. Supposed to go up the weekend of thanksgiving. Haven't decided if I will yet or not.
i was there on a tuesday and it wasn't too bad except for a few dirtbags that were obviously lifting/snagging half dead salmon and some browns
had one guy walk rite up next to me with his kid and toss a big plain hook with a little bl;ack thread on it and tried to snag a brown that was almost at my feet -what an idiot-the bad part is he was teaching his kid that looked to be maybe 8 yrs old to be a scumbag too.
it shouldn't be as bad by thanksgiving when the only salmon left are rotting ones-but there's always a few scumbags there
the one spot i was fishing there were so many salmon and trout i couldn't make a drift without foul hooking a fish so i moved to another spot

our favorite stream was back down and in perfect shape with a nice fish catchin green color. brrrrrr! what a cold day 28 degrees when we started out today and it didn't get much warmer -- but the steelhead action was hot .
the fish were suprisingly strong and put up some serious resistance in the frigid waters. lost count of how many fish we landed but is was well over 50 between the 2 of us. no monsters but the fish were averaging 6 to 9 lbs.
we ended the day releasing a nice 7lb male then headed for home-the fish were still biting when we left at 3:30 but we had enough- the fish realy worked us over today :P

after the great day we had yesterday we decided to sleep late today and take a ride in the afternoon out to one of the lk. ontario tribs to see if we could catch a few female browns for eggs. we arrived before noon to find the parking lot filled with cars -the water low and barely moving and very clear.the few fish that didnt drop back downstream or head up to ther dam pool were consentrated in the few deeper pools and were surrounded by hoards of anglers .
was the closest iv'e got to being skunked in a few years with the small number of fish left and the low clear conditions-crowds and bright skys -but still managed to hook into a few browns (fair hooked) but only landed one and a few smaller rainbows- the kid hooked into 4 rainbows but only landed one.

Steelhead would be cool to catch... we only got pure rainbows here (actually most of them are half cutthroat half rainbow trout) Our rainbows average 3-4 lbs and it looks like your steelies average 5-8lbs. Our rainbows are definitely built different, ours are short, a 17" fish can easily be over 3 lbs, and your steelheads are longer and thinner like a brown is here. Do you find most of your fish on sandbars? That's where the rainbows really like it here.
Good luck in the future! The rainbow fishing is heating up for us as well and should stay hot all winter!

the steelys on the streams i fish average 5-8 lb's and measure around 24-28 inches -there a little more streamlined than regular bows-- occasionaly we get some 10-15 lb'rs that measure 30 to 35 inches and even got a 37 incher once that weighed 22 lbs.
don't have any sand bars on these streams-- getting most of my fish from 4-5 ft deep gravel bottom runs with moderately swift current. On the colder days i do better fishing the big deeper holes 5-7 ft deep with a little slower current.

not me man ---- when the streams start to ice up i hang up the long rods and start getting my icefishing gear ready ;D used to do that but the fish don't fight as good then and my toes ,fingers and rod tip freeze.

got out for 2hrs today-didn't have time to fish my favorite stream but still found a few willing biters at this other creek. ;D
hooked a dozen fish in 2 hrs but only landed 4 of e'm :-\ forgot my one hook box at home and only had small size 14 hooks with me. the fish would just leap clear of the water when i hooked e'm - do a head shake and spit my bait back at me :P
no big ones but i'm happy just to catch something :laugh:

Way to be!! Fishing as a kid was always that much sweeter if you were missing school to do it, regardless of the bite. I was lucky as a kid, my father always said "There is no sense even going to school on a half day, you spend more time on the bus than you do in class. We better go fishin'. " ;D Great fish!!

what a slow day on the creek today - the water was way to clear and the fish weren't very co operative- :-\ i only hooked 11 today and landed 7 and the kid only landed 4 of the 7 fish he hooked into-mainly small ones
broke off a few real nice fish too :(
had to use real lite flourocarbon leaders in the clear water and the fish seem to know were every boulder or ledge is once there hooked .
here i am hooked up with a huge steelhead that was well over 30 inches
after a 10 minute battle he hung me around a boulder-SNAP :-[

gave the steelhead a break today and fished for rainbows and brown trout on one of the more popular lake ontario streams ;) WHAT A GREAT DAY OF FISHING ;D caught a bunch of rainbows and browns- all fair caught :o------ NO SNAGGING OR LIFTING FOR US ,although we saw some dirtballs keeping foul hooked fish-- we dont even take pics of the fouled fish like some guys we saw ;)

what a tough day out on the stream today-came close to getting skunked for a while with the drop in water temps and the high murky conditions +all the leave flowing down stream didn't help either :-\ had to realy work for the few fish we landed but ended up getting a real good fish just before we left :P
come to find out on the way home another stream 20 miles down the road was in better shape and some guys were realy getting into a bunch of nice fish--- not us :-\

finaly got a chance to get out fishing for a few hours after spending the last couple weeks packing /unpacking and moving into our new(used house). most of the streams have been high and muddy with all the rain so we realy didn't miss much anyways.
had to head up north to one of the dam controlled lake ontario streams,all the other streams were to high and muddy to fish.the fishing wasn't the best with the off color flows and frigid water temps and cold wind but i managed to land 7 spawned out skinny browns and lost a big steelhead,it was good just to get out there on the water for a while.the kid discovered he had a few leaks in his waders and spent more time trying to stay warm than fishing-he did manage to hook a couple but unfortunately lost e'm both.

i had high speed cable and had to switch to dial up after moving until my dsl gets hooked up -forgot how slow dial up was and the pictures all look blurry now :-\

Bet the fish in the last photo tired pretty easily, he looks a little thin. Great photos, super fish and tight lines.

got out for a few hours saturday afternoon after it warmed a bit ,tough to fish early mornings with all the slush flowing down the creek and ice forming on guides.the fishings realy slowed down with the cold weather lately,had only 5 bites and landed 4 steelhead that didn't realy put up that much resistance.the kid got skunked again,he had a few hits but missed em all. :-\
its about time to hang up the long rods and get the fish trap and ice rods ready-should have some fishable ice by next week ;D

i'd rather be out on the ice pulling up some jumbo perch and crappie but it was too warm for me to get out on thin ice today :-\ so i grabbed the long rods and headed for one of the local steelhead streams ;D
the fishing was tough due to the high murky conditions from the snow melt but i still managed to land 6 fish today. ;)

still no fishable ice in western newyork :-\ so he had to settle for some stream fishing for steeelhead for our weekly fix ::) .
we took a freind along that rarely fishes and he ended up catching the most today -talk about beginners luck ;)
it wasnt the best day we had out on the streams but we still managed to land 23 between 3 of us and lost at least another dozen.

Man Wny could I go with you sometime.. I need some instruction on steelie fishing.. I never seem to go to Maxwell when they are there and have only caught 3 including that on 5 incher I posted a pic of... GGRR!!!!!!!!!!! Awesome fish!!!

took a break from icefishing today and tried a little winter steelhead action this afternoon .
the water was a bit on the low side ,cold and clear -not the best conditions.
had to go down to 4lb test fluorocarbon to get any hits.
only hooked 6 fish today(1 brown- 5 steels) lost all but one -was still nice to get out and walk the stream today for a change of pace and not have to drag the fishtrap and drill dozens of holes in the ice .
