Well it's that time again, time to start the open water picture thread, and like the past two seasons I have to start it off at the Trout Farm, as I have no open water...

I have a buddy who hates to fish but loves to eat trout I promised he would be feasting on Trout after this trip, and I did not dissapoint, bringing in just under 12lbs for him.

Broke out the fly rod and took 3 of 5 fish with it on a black nymph...here is the big boy at 3lbs

The last teo fish were taken on a strike king mini crank bait...it was cool to watch these brusiers snack a crank bait

The Gangs all here...here are my 5 fish

Felt great to start casting again...next stop crappie

Finally....after 5 trips to the local Crappie haunt the fish are starting to show up, nothing spectacular as of yet, but s few fish.....I

The Bass had all so moved in and they had some size to them, they were ultra light  in colour and almost looked like the white Crappies

And just because Im an equal opportunity fisherman, here is the days crappie haul, 1 white and 1 black.

I had a few pike on as well, one snapped my line as I was using ultra lite gear for crappies the second was a nice little 2lber.

back again tomorrow

Those both look like black crappies to me...The darker top fish being a male, and the bottom fish being a female.  White crappies have vertical bars rather than mottling like the black crappies.  ;) Nice catch though!

You actually learned something at Paul Smiths...besides pick-up lines for the lumberjack girls.   ;D

Start this back up with a pic of me taking my niece out for the trout opener...she is only 2 but caught on quickly...she saw me flyfishing and started to swing her little rod back a forth to copy me.

here are a few of a three day crappie outing, they were not in size or numbers of previous years but I was able to master a dozen or so each day..not to mention the odd small pike

Day 1, i used the pop up live well, I love that thing, but its hard to take pics with

Day 2, i was able to fill the bottom of the bucket with some niecer sized crappies

Day 3, saw the least amount of crappies, but I hooked into a ling and it gave me an awsome fight on an uUL rod and reel with 4lb line....he snapped me off just at the shore line

Nice pictures bassjunky, how did you and your niece do that day?
Good to see she that she was interested in fishing. :)

Nice pike and crappie.
Is that lure in the pikes mouth a Rebel Crickhopper?

Too bad about the burbot, it would be a blast on lite line.

Yep, that is a reble crickhopper, I love them and the rebel bumblebugs, great crappie cranks and land you the odd other fish as well.

My niece and I did not do well, I try to start her off bobber fishing but she really enjoyed reeling it in, so every time I cast it out she would reel the bobber right back in, all that matters is that she did have fun

Good to hear that your niece had fun, that's what it's all about. ;)

I have the Rebel Wee Frog and Big Claw Craw, both these lures are effective for pike and walleyes.

I bet the perch and trout would like the Crickhoppers and Bubblebugs eh?
I may have to add them to my tackle list. ;)
