BassJunky Feeding My Addiction 2010
« on: Apr 07, 2010, 08:51 PM »
Heard a rumour the crappies where running in my area, so loaded up my car on my lunch and headed out right after work. It was easy to see the rumour was right, as 6 Trucks where parked along side of the road. I jumped out and watched as 6 guys all tossed bobbers into a 5 foot area. Not one to fish in a crowd i decdied to move down the road a bit. The bite was not as hot, but I managed some fish

here is the first legal fish of the season (landed two nice bass right off the bat)

Then I got into a few crappie, it was not as fast and furious at the prime spot, but then again I did not have to stand shoulder to shoulder with a bunch of guys either

This is a repost just so I can keep all my pics in one place

When my new trolling motor finally arrived it was time to put my new boat in the water for the first time. My father-n-law and I headed to Rice lake in search of some crappies

and she is officially launched, and down a new Bass Pro Shop Sticker..oh well

It took an hour but my first fish in the new boat was not a crappie but a perch. We hit a school and pulled out perch non-stop for about 30 minutes before they turned back off or left.

Wow, the new toy is 10 times more comfortable then my canoe and moved really well with the 80lb thrust MinnKota. good day to be out on the water

well it appears to have been a short run for teh crappies this year, all week long the fishing hole was lined with truck and guys standing shoulder to shoulder, should have know when I pulled up today and there was no one there?

I decided to give it a shot anyways

first cast I hooked in a fish, hoping for crappie, but the gills/sunny's where on instead

after a few gills the next bite ffelt a bit different, rockbass

a few more gills then all of a sudden my crappie tube stops dead in the water...I start to get a stronge steady pull and I know this aint no gill

this guy was huge, massive belly, no energy just dead wieght

I have a few more bass move in afterwards, but that was the highlight

Trip number two with the new toy, and this time on my home lake. The wife and I got out for a few hours today looking for some panfish fun. the crappies where in hidding we ran into a few perch and a few bass. it was a bit windy and cool out there for my wife, but it was a good day

Things started off bad, my wifes reel blew-up, I have no idea how she always manages to birdsnest a spinning reel, but, as I drop my rod to give her a hand she then notices some surprise rocks, so I give the trolling motor a quick jump tp move us back, the prop catches my line and snappes the tip off my rod...what the hell. Things got better as the bite turned on

the wife gave up on fishing after a bit and took some nice shots of the scenery

back to the shoreline this week. Got an couple free hours after work last night so thought i would hit the panfish hole.

The Gills, pumpkins, Sunny's, ear's whatever you like to call them where on fire, ever cast i pulled in a fish, and most of them had some size to them.

and the beast of the group

a few crappies co-operated as well

Trip #3 with the new boat, everyone else was headed to the BOQ for the Walleye opener so I had this lake pretty much to myself.

My first spot in search of crappies took me to a nice rock wall drop off from 3 to 30 feet just feet from shore. i tossed my crappie tube set-up and let it flutter down, tap, tap, tap, and a few chases later I hooke into a little smally

Next cast, I hook into a nice largemouth who really gave me a battle on my UL rig

Then another nice smally came crashing in...

after a few more largies and a smally it was time to move on, as the crappies where nowhere to be found

Second spot put me over a nice steady 8-10 foot flat, as you drift small clumps of weed appear on screeneach holding fish. I found a nice little school of crappies and I mean little as the largest fish was 10inches

first crappie was the smallest

4th sepceis of the Day were some perch who where holed with the crappies

So far the new toy is paying off

how do you like that boat

It has been holding up real nice, after three trips i have no complaints, this was my first solo trip, and it handled well, easy to move around, the casting deck was super sturdy, and the fishing has been great so no complaints here
