Wave Spin fishing reels.
« on: Mar 23, 2010, 06:08 PM »
Hi all,
I was wondering if any of you have tried the Wave Spin reels?

To me they would be pretty good reels if they infact do reduce or eliminate tangles and birdsnests in your line that would be great.

Did the reel increase your casting distance?

Which model did you try?

Just looking for feed back on them from people who have used them. :)

i don't know but what i saw in the commercial looked like snake oil to me. but if you get one let me know. I'm always looking for something to help out my 6 year old. she's a pretty good caster but sometimes you just can't stop it from happening.

Tackle Tour did a review on this reel when it came out back aroung '07-08.  I've only seen the reel in store and thought they were a little too big for the kids.  It's probably something that can be useful but a tad expensive for kids.

Seems to me most of my rats nests and tangles come from line twist (from the bait Im throwing) or the wind being nasty and getting loops.

Not sure how this reel would help out with those issues.

The reel itself can't help with line twists and wind knots from windy conditions.  Only throwing a heavier lure that keeps line tension can help in the wind.

The wavespin concept is for the jagged spool lig to catch the loose loop(s) of line and preven it from being pulled on the cast.  That's one of the biggest spinning reel wind knot bird nest that can happen.  I know this sometimes happens on the spinning reels and mostly because I get complacent and just keep casting and reeling without putting proper tension on the line.  This happens much more often when I'm using a popper lure becuase then I really don't have the tension I need to wrap the line onto the spool.

I tend to keep my spools about 3/4 full so I dont get too much boil off, and my Stren line relaxes nicely after an hour of casting so Im not getting too many snafus.

My lighter reels are the ones that get wind loops from time to time because Im throwing lighter stuff, but I try to keep on top of it with long casts with something heavy once in awhile.

Thanks for the info everyone. :)

Neat new wave spin reels.
If I were to get one, that zrt 3000 would probably be the one I would pick.
