Title: Maybe viable substitute for lithium batteries?
Post by: taxid on Mar 02, 2023, 03:18 PM
I posted this as we all use these batteries with our fishing related toys.

This might actually help to lower the price.

It appears the left over shells are what it used so restaurants may have an incentive to not throw them away.

I was just thinking if they have more uses and value that they will sell for more initially, but I am not an economist.

Chitin is being looked at for a large swath of industries! I know one other application that I got to see some research being done was a building material! Combing lignin(from plants) and chitin(from exoskelteons) to create extremely strong and durable building material. I saw that research on a trip in Germany at the Technical University of Munich: Straubing campus. I am sure there are other universities investigating it as well!

We shouldn't have to worry about price increase on crabs because there is so much shells discarded from the lump crab meat market it's astonishing. Thanks for getting this article infront of me Tax!

Only if the supply isn't enough.

But if restaurants can SELL their leftover scrap....................

 ;)

Actually, you are probably correct.
The reason seafood is high cost is the relative cost to harvest it.
So now you put 2X, or 8X the barkets out there for the stuff and prices will go up.
