Bluebirds 2017
« on: May 26, 2017, 04:00 PM »
We have 4 eggs in the nest box today.

Moving the box and changing the entrance seems to have discouraged the sparrows. Hopefully we'll get a hatch this year.

Still 4 eggs in the nest.

Papa guarding the nest.

Mama guarding the nest

Mama hanging out in the doorway getting some fresh air.

We're hopeful for a good hatch. We love the little bluebirds.

They're cute little buggers ;D
Seems that they've  gotten used to us sitting outside. Fun to watch.

Nice!  We had eggs and a hatch, but yesterday I checked and there was only a dead bird in there.  Cleaned it out and two hours later I saw a bluebird checking it out, hopefully for a new nest.

Well, the Bluebirds have re-nested and now have 4 new eggs. I didn't risk taking pics. Didn't want to stay too long at the box. We'll see how it goes this time.

Failed again >:(

Just. He led the nest. 2 empty eggs. They're around every day, but still not a successful hatch.

SUCCESS!

We have 2 hatchlings and 1 more egg in the nest. Took a quick picture but it didn't come out too good. I'll try another shot tomorrow night.

Do you have the nesting box oriented towards a small tree, or shrub for the babies to practice flying too? Once we turned our box towards a small tree (Katsura) about 15 ft away we started to get successful hatches. Figured I'd throw it out there.

Also congrats! I know I love listening to the little buggers when the parents bring back food for them.

Here are the pic of the nest from earlier today. Hard to see them but they're there.

The nest box is in the open and maybe 30' or so from the trees.

They're in and out feeding. The male has been very active bringing bugs to w nest. The female is still brooding.
