Better way to fish real eggs than egg sacks

Tired of having to tie egg sacks with that yarn junk? Then this idea is for you

Get some real, fresh trout eggs (or salmon eggs), and mix them with some sugar and borax. The eggs stay together great, but without the yarn. YOu can also tear chunks off, with small sizes or large sizes, so if the fish want more or less bait you can do that.

Nothin new to me or anyone in alaska. Using salmon roe is probably the number one way for spin fisherman to catch coho and i will tell ya curing salmon roe is like cooking up here everyone has there own secret recipe. I am lucky cuz i keep 30 to 60 egg sacks a year for free from silvers i catch. I have two recipes  and i will provide my quik infererior recipe because i can't give up a family secret!

Get some sort of bucket and cover the bottom lightly with borax and then cover the borax with strawberry jellow powder. Then lay your egg skins on the jellow and pour more jellow powder on top ofthe egg skins. Finally pour some borax on top of the jello. You can repeat the process with more skins till you reach the top of the bucket. Close the bucket and let is sit at room temp for at least 24 hours.

i assume you guys are talking about eggs still in the skein??  hey kodiak, will your recipe work for indiviual eggs for sacs?

Yeah thats how we do it up here. We don't use jello though.....does that help?? How does it help?? Just plain ole borax in a plastic container with the roe works great for us. You can leave it in whole skeins or cut it up. Might have to try the jello!

wny angler has a post about this somewhere. Chartreuse, or green jello, is best for murky water, and lighter colors are best for clear water.  I think that's what he said anyway. Do a search on it. I don't do it myself though.

We fish at the confluence of 2 rivers.....one very muddy.....the other very clear......we fish the clear water.....catch many fish.......not change anything I've decided
