Why Lobstermen Hate Stripers

I got a surprise a couple of days ago while fishing at my spot on the coast.

This came out of a 29" striper, caught by Blueberryman.  When I saw the stomach, I thought it might be crabs.

The bass love them!  Ive seen them stuffed with juvi lobsters and crabs.

the lobstering is so good now because there's a very low population of ground fish and sea urchins they used to destroy the lobsters and habitat .

Lobsters like to eat green crabs.
The state should stock Stripers to keep the green crab population down.

This is a cause for illegal killings in the Chesapeake Bay Area.   They have a big population of stripers and many had turned to the striper population for the reason the blue crab population was down.  There were crabbers illegally killing big stripers because they considered them harmful to the crabbing because of their love of shellfish.  I think that practice has pretty much stopped but yea they like the crabs and lobsters very much.

You want the State to stock something that eats what you want to use to reduce population.

More often than not, especially in the warmest months, stripers gorge on crabs.  Ive opened a few that had over a dozen inside of them!

I had a 28" fluke regurgitate three 4" lobsters and one 3" rock crab all at once. It also had a whole 10" squid and about 10 sand eels in its belly. Talk about a buffet!

I open one up on the pier one day had 2 pound and a half shedders in it.should of  seen the look on the guys faces that were standing around
