A customer was in my shop today talking fishing and jawing with my and me today. He said he'd had soem luck with mooselook wobblers but he had the best luck with DB Smelts. Said he got them in Rangeley. The only place he's ever found em. I looked em up and seen where they sell em. Anyone tried em? Had any luck with them?

they sell them everywhere down here in nh and they are awesome, im partial to the rangley special.
-
I've caught fish with them and some of them are my go to lure when I'm fishing hardware. Lots of tackle shops have them now.

Yes, they are everywhere here in Southern Maine and New Hampshire now.
LL Bean carries them, Kittery Trading Post carries them, and most of your small bait stores carry them as well.
They do work.

They are made by a guy in Berlin NH.
Ive used them for 7 or 8 years now (bought the first one when they were still only sold in berlin NH) and they are my go to hardware. I hardly put a mooselook on anymore
-
That #102 flavor fished real well for me last year for togue and salmon. ;)

Anyone use them for brookies? If so which one? Thanks 8)

sutton spoons are still hard to beat in my book

I was introduced to these great lures by my friend who lives in Oquossic. We used them on Rangeley Lake with great sucess on salmon. River's Edge Sport Shop has them in Oquossic. I have used them in my local ponds and they work great also. You can't go wrong, they are a staple in my box

Is there any other online site to buy Guides Special Lures? Tried the NH guides link. The phone number for Paugus Bay Sporting Goods gives you an answering machine saying they have been forced to close their doors due to the economy. Thanks

What's all this talk about DB smelts and the Guide's Special Lures?
I thought the only true lure out there was a fresh smelt. :D :D
-
might have to try those db's........................ ;)

***CAUTION***
THESE LURES ARE EXTREMLEY ADDITCING!!!! It can get costly...haha
You will end up buying 6 or 7 of the same pattern once you start catching fish, and you will catch fish with these lures.
Matty Groves (Hooked on Salmon Charters ) can tell you where to get the guide specials and mini guides (my favorites). The db's you can get most anywhere. Alan Nute (AJ's Bait and tackle) used to also sell the BB Guns which are a lot like the db's and the guide specials. Top guns and mini guns are awesome too, give them a try.
