Ossipee Lake this weekend
« on: May 23, 2019, 12:09 PM »
Headed to camp at Ossipee Lake this weekend.  I was thinking of trying for some spawning bass but I have never done it before.  What should I be looking for as far as location on the lake?  What is a good lure to try for bass on beds?

I mostly fish for coldwater fish.

Thanks in advance for any tips!

Ned rigs fished shallow has worked well for me.

There will be beds but the bass in the lakes region are a week behind..if your on the main lake I would head to any shallow area..they like sandy and small rock bottoms..anything white really..it’s not the color that attracts them it allows you to see when they picked it up or if your on or off the bed..Texas rigged white tube or white craw are my go too..if you go up into the bays get inside any marker you can find..have fun ..I headed up this weekend to but trying a different lake..

I'm in North Conway and haven't seen any on the beds yet....

It’s behind for sure..prespawn is better anyways because you fish instead of driving around looking for beds ..enjoy

Agreed on things being a little behind schedule. My go to when the water is still cold are jerkbaits, big black and gold long A worked very aggressively... I'm more looking for an reaction strike than a feeding strike this time of year. Already called in to work this morning and headed out in a few.

I understand, Stealth.
Have trolled the big lakes when it's a bit nautical and a 9.9 can't keep you on course.
Hope you're feeling better. ;-)

Never made it out for bass last weekend.  I did do some trolling and caught a small (7") salmon and also a slab of a crappie.  First crappie I have ever caught out of Ossipee.
