Good going Percheyes... You're making me jealous.  I did get out today in the backyard and caught a large number of crappies using the Garmin Livescope.  I was not cleaning or keeping today so they all made it safe back in with a sore lip...  I am going to start directing my attention to the perch at Max and also at Koontz very soon.  I used to target them at Pine and Stone and would catch numbers but never any size.

you did good for the wind out there!  must have been hard to stay put and see/feel bites. nice job.

you better get to koontz pro.  I was there yesterday and had a sack full of 11-14" perch.  must have had 40 or so when they shut off at dark. fish were in 8-15ft zone. jigging raps dropped in big schools.  the camera batteries were dead so no pics. you'll just have to believe me.  loon has been giving up some nice ones too. a friend said he had 25, in 4 hours,  all over 11".  we have friends that go to Erie all summer and clean hundreds of 8-10"ers and think its just the best thing ever.  :o  Y

Thanks for the encouragement Indianahooker.   That depth range sounds right.  The last time I dropped a blue/silver jigging rap in Koontz, I was out a bit deeper and could not keep those striped bass off the jigging wrap.  I will probably drag the bottom until I find the perch and then set up for a while.

johnsons bay area was good day before yesterday.  lots of runts to weed threw though.   yesterday I went to loon. weather was killer with the fog!  size was much better ended up with 45 tween 2 of us.  biggest stretched 13.75" on the tape. none kept were under 10".  great year class there rite now in there.  I used a big jig rap. my buddy used drop shot again.  both worked well bit the size was better with the big rap.

Very possibly white bass Taxid.  I apologize as I really do not know this species.  Very aggressive, very strong with a white appearance with longitudinal stripes...

I was catching huge bluegills on Clear Lake east of Fremont one year in early December in open water. Finally it got colder and started snowing and that put an end to that.

there was ice on the creek in my deer woods Saturday!  wont be long!  4 to 6 weeks and we walk on ice!  don't know what the water tamps have been.  I just made short trips and didn't need the finder.  bite still on time of day changed though.

You're such an optimist for the development of decent ice.  ;D

No perch palooza today.Only brought 6 keepers to the boat today. All 6 good fat yellow bellies, biggest was 11”Caught some bonus northern pike which may of been why the perch were not roaming my area.Still a very good day to be out if only the winds weren’t so brisk

Glad you had a good day out and a good perch season...  I have wanted to try your slip bobber technique at Maxi but just have not taken the time.  Too many good opportunities day in and out with family, fishing, work, life...

Going to freeze and chase some gold Saturday .Just can’t put the boat away when there’s open water and nice perch swimming around.Any one else still outin a boat
Title: Re: Wawasee
Post by: LundProv on Dec 04, 2020, 05:41 AM
Absolutely!  Remember, they make really good clothing now!  Between my son and myself, we DO NOT winterize our boats.  Besides the lake in the backyard, which will freeze, lake Michigan is 10 minutes up the road and the perch are on fire most all winter over at Cal Harbor. The coho and browns are around and some days are lights out and some days are just fishing for them.  Bundle up with good clothing and you can always enjoy a couple of hours on the water.  The biggest deterrents are wind and sometimes ice on the ramp from others coming and going. One of the advantages is that there is no one else out!  Enjoy...

Never really tried targeting perch this time of year, usually after big bass with blade baits in deeper water.  Where do you find the perch in inland lakes this time of year, shallow sand bars or deeper water?

I am glad to see you guys are still out chasing them.  Saw a Rangertrail trailer at the ramp on Backwater/Webster Saturday.  Looks like he had to break skim ice to get out the ramp and to the channel.
