anyone gone out for flounder in the harbor yet?
« on: May 13, 2020, 08:34 PM »
I'm heading out in the morning for my second time ever. I went out 1.5 weeks ago and we got two small keepers (the only flounders), along with a ton of skates and crabs on the deer island flats.

Nice break in the weather predicted for tomorrow. I'm going to try my luck with a bag of clams for chum and maybe more drifting than last time...the Great Santini told me its a good way to avoid skates which bent up all my hooks. Also going to put some clam on the hook instead of just worms.

I found when I did drift that it was hard to discern bites from the weight dragging on the bottom. Any thoughts on this?

Weekend looks like a good time for tog down in buzzards bay so I'm looking forward to that!

Cheers and tight lines y'all.

Best of luck! Watching the flounder and skates on camera the flounder will come off the bottom further than the skates...

I have a pocket-sized Aqua-view I hadn't thought about using it. Good suggestion!

If the water is clear you can often pull the hooks away from the skates. Also as you drift you can watch for the flounder and see if they are around a real time saver.

do you just put a weight on the camera and drift it out same as the line? those things like to spin around like crazy even through the ice!

Don't know about your unit, my Auqa-view has a fin that keeps it stable.

I'll play around with it tomorrow. do you generally drift of anchor up? Bait shop gave me blood worms instead of sand worms that will be interesting. HOpefully less bitey lol

I constantly drift and if you have GPS just go back to your starting point or you can throw a marker with a weight when you get into them. Then anchor up at the marker.
