Yep, lots of fun.  A quick and easy tie, too.  I used floating line for the tail, colored with a pink Sharpie.

Dont do too much trout fishin or river smallies so i've Never tied a mouse before, what do you do? Just tie in a bunch of deer hair and cut it??  Of course with the tail being tied on first...

Yep, that's all there is to it.  Tie on the tail, spin the deer hair the entire length of the hook, then give it a haircut.  Fishes just like a jitterbug, but for the flyrod.

Very sweet indeed...

There's something very satisfying about nailing Smallies (or Pike for that matter) on a MOUSE imitation!!!

I'd love to hear the conversation at some stuffy, uptight fly shop:

"What's the hot pattern and reliable hatch this week"?

"Oh- about a five inch rat pattern ought to get you a few"

There are few things as awesome to watch then a nice chunky Smallie EXPLODING on a surface lure...  I hit 'em pretty hard with big, gnarly Muddlers most often...  Almost like a 3" grasshopper on the surface...  The Bronzebacks just LOVE 'EM!!!

But on spinning gear it's hard to top the ol' Jitterbug...  75 years and they are still hammering fish...

Awesome...

i rely on the jitterbug myself.it was the one lure that made sure my father and i didnt get skunked.when i was about7 or 8 years old he showed me his favorite lure and ill show my kids when i have them lol.i have even hooked a few friends on fishing just by showing them what havoc this lure can cause on top.nothin makes my heart stop like that huge splash then when you set the hook its like setting it into a stump FISH ON!!!!!!

Haven't fished a jitterbug in a few years myself, but that is exactly what this fly reminds me of on the water.
