Trolling motor for pontoon boat.
« on: Mar 08, 2005, 12:22 AM »
I have a very old simple pontoon boat that doesn't have oars so it is very slow to move with flippers. I have been thinking about getting a minn kota so i can troll for various species and just get around faster. My question is how much thrust i need. My pontoon boat is about 40 to 45 pouds, very light for a pontoon boat and i am a big guy, 6'8" and 275 pounds. I have had people tell me 30 pounds of thrust is enough for trolling and getting around faster. Remember i am not looking to blast off, just need more power than flippers. Any advice on how much thrust i need?
I've never been to heaven, but i have fished  in  Alaska.

I have been thinking of adding a small trolling motor to my 9 foot pontoon, but I think I would need a lighter battery so I wouldn't be sitting so low in the water.
